subjected, to whether
will it be difficult to transfer from IP to O lvl for non dsa student?
1)
got how many vacancies remain inside these regular O-level class, as there is a fixed quota for O-level classes,
2)
how many IP students are caught in a similar dilemma (situation), also looking for Transfer back to O-level class, concurrently ?
If more than one IP student also want to transfer to O-level, same qn :
are there enough vacancies to absorb these students, due to fixed quota ?
If no vacancy arise inside these fixed quota O-level class, then they may need to repeat IP, for that year IP student didn't do well
Thus, although Catholic High is a dual track school, do Not assume that Transfer from IP to OP is automatic, once an IP student cannot cope.
For promotion at end of IP (4th year) go up into affliated Eunoia Junior College (Year 5), there is also a set of Promotion criteria, that need to be met. At beginning of Year 4 (IP), Principal of EJC will brief students, what's the Promotional criteria going to be like -

Am very surprised to read the post you quoted.
You may try to appeal based on genuine medical reasons that MOE may accept. Eg: Depression, stress anxiety related to studies, suicidal thoughts, etc with supporting letters from psychologist.Happy75\" post_id=\"1900596\" time=\"1551463311\" user_id=\"47557:
Too late for me to see this post. I insisted my Ds to do IP Program. Now struggling in year 2. Now have to think how to write email to school to transfer him to O level track. 😔
Seriously? Didn't even consider talking to the IP head or subject Hods and just wanna request for a transfer via email?
CHS o level track also a lot of smart boys and not necessary less stressful -

Why transfer to o level unless intend to go poly after that.
will it be difficult to transfer from IP to O lvl for non dsa student?
If he is under performing in IP, then it make sense to talk to the subject chers. There are many kids who know their work but just don't perform as well in tests and exams due to anxiety or other medical problem. Changing track won't make it any easier for them -
No
Transfer from IP to OP within CHS, is never automatic. This is a common mis-conception.
Why ?
Often, this is mis-conception by many parents because their thinking is, "Oh ! Never mind. I want my son to go IP, because IP sounds good. CHS is a dual-track school. if my son can’t cope inside IP after trying, just transfer him back to OP lor ! "
Bear in mind, one key thing -
While these IP students who are struggling inside CHS IP, want to quickly Transfer back to OP asap, concurrently, at end of mid Sec 2 / Year-end Sec 2, there are also many students from other outside Secondary schools also trying to seek Transfer into Catholic High, at the same time. Often, these outside students are armed with good (Sec 1 and Sec 2) O-level results, and they are keen to join (Transfer into) CHS.
However, as mentioned, O-level classes got fixed quota.
Put yourself into the shoes of the Principal of Catholic High, given a choice, faced with a fixed quota for O-level classes, would you
a)
rather offer (give) the scarce, available O-level vacancy (assuming that vacancy arise) to the struggling IP student,
Or
b)
rather offer the scarce, available O-level vacancy to the outside student from another Secondary school who had applied to seek Transfer into CHS, who is equipped with very good (Sec 1 and Sec 2) academic results, plus good behavior ?
They both contend, for the same O-level vacancy. CHS can’t possibly open up another O-level class, just to accomodate struggling IP students. Why ?
To open up another class, u need to dedicate another set of Form Tr, Co-form Tr, and all the various subject Tr for a class.
Our regular O-level classes conducted, are different from those other IP schools’ "on-demand" O-level class formed -

would the contents/material to study for O lvl easier than IP arh... I only roughly know IP means more projects/need more team work and study more in depth and ?? if that is the case, O lvl should be less demanding, allow more time for the kids..the big difference probably the IP route will kinda secured maybe a 'better' JC through psle results, which may be an easier route compared to O lvl?

Just want to highlight that neither OP or IP is ‘up’ or ‘down’. Don’t determine a system is better because of COP.
:thankyou: based on available vacancies, make sense.. I thought it would be easier to transfer down.
Quota is never the real concern in effecting a transfer, nor is leaving a space for outside, better students. As responsible educators, the school will always determine what’s best for the student. If it means quota +1 or opening up an additional class, the school will just do it.
The main issue is that while OP and IP are two different pedagogy, there’s no guarantee that someone struggling in IP will do well in OP, and vice versa. As per Nebbermind comment, talk to the teachers and find out where went wrong. Changing track doesn’t necessarily make it easier. Don’t be lured into this idea that you will end up with an easier job in OP. -

Hmm, I have always had the view that for longer term planning for better students would be OP in tier 2 boys’ schools like CHS. At least if you do well in O Levels, u r not stuck with tier 2 or 3 JCs like Eunoia JC. There is still chance to do A Levels at RI, HCI or VJC.

If you are a better student, you should already be in schools leading up to RI, HCI or VJC (and VS COP is very similar to CHS).

Sec school is a brand new ball game. Students will be taking 8 or more subjects, including several new ones. Better students in PSLE don’t always turn out to be better students in O Level. Don’t like EJC? You may end up with something lower down the food chain.
