Yes, its the parents who are hesitating. If we are not, the DS will have an easier decision making process.

While I can empathize with what you are going through, I think we need to understand: you won't be going to school nor will you be sitting for exams for the next 6 years.

Wow, Prelims 4A* think he has a good chance to go RI/HCI.

DD2 had this classmate who was a Maths Masterclass student, wanted to go NUSH badly. Her parents only wanted RGS and she was not even allowed to try the NUSH DSA! The girl subsequently scored 4A*. Now in RGS, I do not think she has been shortchanged by her parents’ insistence.

But to be honest, to give up the WL and wait for tscore will need lots of courage (at least for me) cos nobody can tell for sure what the 3 digits will turn out to be.

My DS was rejected so his option left NUS High WL or go in via PSLE score to other school.

Wonder why he can go through NUS high tough selection test but not IP school interview. Lol..scratching head. Maybe he is lacking in some stuff which the school is looking for.

Nevertheless he said he will decide if to exercise NUS high WL or give up his WL after PSLE. He was not taking the rejection too hard as from day 1 he was just aiming for NUS High. I am the one who asked him to put in 3 choices.

Base on his prelim 4 A star, i think he can go in any secondary school with his result if nothing drastic went wrong on actual day.

I think my hesitation to support his dream NUS high is affecting him abit. I just feel is better to have a more rounded main stream education which is more safer. Or am i wrong not to support him?
Your son is keen to go NUS high passionately, but as a parent, something is holding u back.

What is this fear giant, inside you that u are battling, struggling?
Has it got to do with languages ?
Or u feel that at 12 years old, he still not mature, too young for him to specialize so early, go into NUS High heavy on Maths and Science stuff, won't end up in Law faculty, that kind of situation ?

I am wondering if it’s too young for him to specialise as what he like now might not be what he like in the future. Can we trust a 12 yr old kid to make such a big decision?

Also, what if he cannot cope in this so called gifted environment where many are platinum or gold medal in various olympiad.

Maybe it’s us parents who are worrying too much.

                Hi myrick88,

Is one of these schools ( RI, Victoria school, Dunman High), your son’s first choice ?

If Yes, and in dilemma over accepting NUS High WL, plus the fact that he scored excellent 4 A * Prelim results, perhaps wait for Psle results then decide, because once NUS High WL gets converted into a CO, cannot U-turn back, cannot participate in S1 posting anymore

(do Not reply nor answer me publicly the question posed, in this open forum. It is food, for thought)

Thanks! After discussing with hubby, we will follow with heart of DS. Told him we will revisit this after PSLE and come to a decision. If NUSH is still his choice by then, follow his heart and strive for it.

He only have one dream school and in the event the WL is not converted, he will opt for one of the boy IP school.

The rejection from VS and DHS does not have any effect on him. He told me if NUSH reject him, he will feel sad but not any other school which he can still use PSLE scores to get in.

In fact, I have been trying to steer him away from NUSH that he don't really want to discuss on this topic with me.
