Any news on Maths Paper 1?

My gal will be taking her PSLE next yr. Reading this thread makes me worry if SEAB is going to set the papers so hard for next yr :nailbite: ... Pray hard next yr being the last year of the T-score system, it will be a pitch to a manageable level, taking into consideration those average to higher ability kids. Really pity the children , even we adults have difficulty solving the tricky English vocab questions. Why can't the SEAB be more compassionate and lenient? :scratchhead:

ya, last year was a bit \"surprised\" - paper seem much easier. i heard a lot of kids i know get \"well\"
so in the end sec sch admission Y score went up alot too
Most avg students done pretty well
Those avg and slight above avg sch for 230 to 240 range - entry T score went up to as many as 4 to 5 pts :roll:
top sch T score is not sky high - prob only very few challenge qn to CUT them out

ya, my area neighbourhood schools went up btw 4~8pts.
during PTM earlier this year, my DD FT told me quite a number of students from the school cannot get in to those school due to the increase. so she encourage DD to try DSA.

The guess would be how much the COP for top schools increase then for this year. Those with DSA but not really their first choice may just decided to accept what is offered to play safe.


So are school prelims set too easy? Or we can think of SEAB setters are really good and can think of out of the box questions? Other than high ability, you need very ‘zai’ students to handle tough papers well, especially for questions which they have not encountered before. Some HA kids get flustered easily as well.

would the schs increase cop if papers are tougher?

Don’t worry guys! This is after all a T score exam…so everyone’s in the same boat regardless of difficulty of paper. Unlike the new system where absolute score matters, now, as long as you ranked with everyone else, it should be fine? Recalling yest’s EL paper discussion, I seemed to think that there are maybe 3-4 questions that folks ain’t sure about answers. I think that’s ok, my gal in 2016 came back with 7-8 wrong answers yet still get A* so do not despair…you only get worried when you are drifting away from the masses in the wrong way.

Yes, Tscore still fall under relative Psle score of all our fellow P6 peers together, while the new AL (2021) is absolute marking, different


next year 2020 (born 2008) likely to be hard (tough) too, same as 2019 this year, because no more Tscore batch left mah, to help (in assistance) to pitch setting the right questions, for AL roll-out.

since 2021 (born 2009) is guinea-pig experimentation pioneer batch to launch AL, probably Psle questions going to be set easy (start AL cautiously first) , but for subsequent batch one year later 2022 (born 2010), then will be harder
