Actually for 2019 Maths, those heavy 4 marks or 5 marks questions towards the end of Paper 2, are more \"Maths olympaid\" and Heuristics type of questions set, to differentiate P6 students from getting an A vs. A *

On one hand, someone bound to comment that
Ya lah, every year without fail, sure got a few tough questions bound to set. One forummer ever said that before, if check backwards.

However, on the other hand, in Mainstream schools (non gep) -
Those P6 students who never attend any \"MO\" training before will lose out, because they have never received any training before in MO. MO is offered for upper primary P5 and P6 students, for full solid 2 years in primary schools. In some schools, some even received (started) MO training at P4, means Total, 3 years. Is it any wonder then, that these students will sail (breeze) through this year 2019 Maths, while those who never attend any at all, struggled ?

After all, those of us know that those worksheets from \"My Pals are Here \" are useless, because none of these used in schools, prepare students to fave MO questions.

The logical question then we need to ask SEAB is,

Isn't it unfair to set those 4 and 5 marks \"MO\" questions, when NOT all P6 Mainstream students have the same, equal chance to receive \"in-house\" MO training, because so far, who get to receive free MO training in schools ? They are

A)
- GEP students, because the MO Maths questions are built in, designed already into the GEP (P4 to P6 ) curriculum,

And

B)
- those \"High ability\" Mainstream students, who were selected by their respective primary schools at either end of P3, or P4, to attend \"High ability\" MO free training lessons, in schools

Those P6 Mainstream students, who never receive any chance (opportunity) to smell nor experienced free \"MO\" training, everyday just keep practising those ordinary, not helpful \"My Pals are Here\" series, or keep practising tonnes and mountain high piked up stack and stack of past year papers, is it any wonder then that they are shocked, stoned, taken aback, stunned by these \"MO\" 4 / 5 heavy marks set inside Paper 2 this year, and cried (depressed ) ?

So, question is, why did SEAB set heavy 4 / 5 marks Paper 2 questions, knowing that only a subset of P6 students had received the pri ileged, coveted free MO training in school, while Majority of P6 students did not receive ?

Isn't this very unfair, right from beginning ?

I mean, if want to test funny questions, make it fair -
That ALL p6 students, regardless of whether Gep or Non Gep, high ability or Non high ability Maths students, All habe received free MO training, then Yes, test them all, on EQUAL ground. Then only is this fair and square !!!

Chill bro got bell curve :DDD

Well, I Guess it’s not so much about the bell curve, but rather looking at the vulnerable & innocent 12 yrs old kids welfare & mental torture, having to sit for these tough papers , even an adult can’t attempt these questions easily. Their emotions will definitely be dampened & crushed. In addition the fear too taking their first National Exam will get them even more nervous.
Remember, not all kids ability are the same and the government shd take into consideration those average ability kids...
Was it really that tough?

agltan98,

with more info coming in from students, I'm told that the younger bro pointed at the door in pic 4. Thus, he did ask and it's more like the sister was too engrossed with using the computer. Won't be considered out of point for the composition but will affect content marks a little.

Erh, any idea if the boy did indeed point at the door?
Huh where got point at door??
The boy only dashed off while sister was distracted by the computer

I read the maths questions with shock and fear. My child is going to be in 2021 psle batch, with no moderation. If their intention is to keep throwing in Math Olympiad questions, I really don't know how :imdrowning:
2021 PSLE onwards will be AL system. With no moderation allowed, SEAB cannot set questions that are unreasonably tough any more. Otherwise most students would fail to achieve the (fixed) passing AL grade. Not MOE’s aim at all.

panickymum,

Somewhere in the compo, you need to justify why your decision turn out to be a right one
- e.g. recalling you were taught about 路不拾遗/城市的可贵 etc. or stating the consequences if that decision was not made/if the opposite decision was made.

TQ, same ans . 😄
But then again, the question ask for 词语, and 爱不释手is a 成语.....so...

I checked thru the past year exam papers. The exam papers still indicate 词语 even though the ans is a 成语。so I think they might still be correct.
Yes, for Q34 and Q35, answer can be 2, 3 (e.g. 难为情,舍不得,恨不得) or 4 characters.

Make me wonder whether to send my mainstream younger child for math Olympiad training. I have a feeling that the yr 2021 new system is not going to be blissful. Unlike tscores, new banding system will not measure across national standard as a whole. If an unexpected difficult paper pop out suddenly, mainstream average students will be caught off-guarded. Also, students will be very cautious and stressed to get one more crucial mark to differentiate 89 and 90 so that they will be at the distinction range instead of A if it is that 1 mark that will change the grade.

I want to laugh at myself. When the paper is hard, I worry. Oh no, going to be hard to score.

When the paper is relatively easy, like CL today, I also worry. Oh no, every mistake is magnified, hard to stand out.

Sigh, must try to have a zen like attitude to all this PSLE stress.

Everybody stay strong, last 1 or 2 papers for everyone. Hang in there.

What were the reasons he provided? If the marking scheme is strict, will be considered wrong. But if he gave reasons like he wanted to give his friend a chance to correct his wrong and will talk to the friend + warn him not to do it again and to learn from his mistake then can 'overturn' the situation.

psleisstress, as of my current understanding regarding 阅读理解二A组's content and Q34, yes, extra details like details of the event will be deducted 0.5 marks each (max -1 mark).

第一人称 can affect content marks a little (~ -2) cos boy wasn't in picture 5. The kids are usually reminded to write from 第三人称 pov if character is 'missing' from any of the pictures.

Hi chen laoshi,

For the last question, if the child put he 赞成作者这样做 i.e. to let teacher assume the handphone is his whereby it is actually his friend handphone so that the friend will not get the scolding, is it possible to get marks as well? Mayb some questions can have 2 way answers both to be correct as the 出发点是好的?

By the way, anyone knows how many marks is that question?
Mangopuff\" post_id=\"1938653\" time=\"1569832732\" user_id=\"181078:
Ejmom, my girl wrote the same as your son. She said the person who dropped the phone is innocent, it was an accident. Dats why she wants to help him. Let’s hope our kids will get some marks.
Santorini56 & Mangopuff,

If I'm not mistaken, the boy whose phone dropped \"was caught by teacher for using HP before\" so he actually 明知故犯. In order to stand any chance of getting full marks if the view is to agree with the author's action, then you'll need to stress/explain that by doing so, you are giving that boy another(/one last) chance to correct his mistake.

Lol. I agree, but can understand parent's having such feelings/thoughts too.

Like I always remind the kids regardless of how easy/challenging the papers may be, most importantly, is they give it their best shot in both preparation and application process cos that's what's within their control.
