Is it a norm to take 3rd language?

      I think it’s quite common. But from my small sample size, the dropout rate looks quite high For boys. Somehow it seems that the IP gals have lower attrition rate.

      I’m not just referring to RI, but overall across the IP.

      I don't think DS is really keen on the 3rd languages. More on the idea of having able to take up a 3rd language. 😂
      3rd language can be use for calculation for GPA right?
I think only the current Y4 have their GPA calculated based on Y3 and Y4 results. In a bid to reduce student stress level, the Sch has done away with this practice so that for everyone else, every year will be a new slate.

        Do you mean starting next year Y4 GPA will be calculated based on Y4 only? That means only half year? ‘Cos the second half will be gapsem.

        Yah, that’s what I understood in the P’s briefing earlier this year.
Thank you, iRabbit. It is a good change in policy. 😄

          GPA = ( core 5 subjects + 1 )/6
          Core: English, mother tongue, maths, science, 1 humanities(literature, history, geography)
          Remaining subjects: any remaining subjects including elective(mep/aep/3rd language/cep)

          In other words, for Y1/2, choose best 2 among literature, history, geography and 3rd language.

For example, some of the promotion pre-requisites in previous years, such as a pass in Philosophy and Research Education have been removed. For Y3 and Y4(from 2020), GPA is now calculated based on (Core 5 + Best 1)/6 instead of (Core 5 + Best 3)/8. So even a bad day at the exams may not drastically affect one's grades.

              My boy's literature, history, geography and 3rd language same gpa tier :skeptical: so if I am to look solely at academic wise, theoretically he could have done better if he didn't take 3rd language and can spend more time on his humanities. But knowing him, he will probably spend more time gaming. So, I take it that the 3rd Language give him an exposure into a different culture and open his eyes that the world out there is big (considering we don't travel overseas a lot). My ds1 who took 3rd language for 2 years, even now 3years after dropping the lang, I see him smile 😄 whenever he spotted some familiar Spanish words spoken in the movie. If schooling is not all about academics, 3rd language is a good enrichment if one enjoys it and can cope. Some kids who do not enjoy it can withdraw but the only opportunity cost I see is if that kid gave up other enrichment to go for 3rd language (in our case my boy said he intend to go for third language in lieu of CEP next year).

              Having said that, there is only one 4.0gpa overall boy in my boy's class this year (unless my boy heard wrongly) and that boy doesn't take 3rd language.

                      In the mornings, where is the drop off point if driving in? That day we were told to dropped off at the cafe, JC side. Any other possible nearer drop off point?

                      If drop off along the road, where do boys generally being drop off? which gate they enter in?

                      Thanks.
