My girl has just turned 4 yo and I’m looking into enrolling her into phonics class. Can’t decide between ICR or LC… Any recommendations for Tiong Bahru branch?

If a child never speaks up during assessment, is there a way to register the course in ICanRead? Because my daughter is doing well in her preschool and her current enrichment class but usually she needs some time to warm up in the environment.

                  Hi,

First time parent and totally new to these enrichment course.
My child is turning 4 this year (attend N2 4hrs class). Looking to enrol her at LCentral or I can Read Tampines this or next year.
                  Will like to know:
                  1) any recommendation and why?
                  2) what do they evaluate during the assessment test?
                  3) school fees for both
                  4) any referral code - discount?

After 3 months enrichment class in I can Read for my daughter in Sun Plaza, she still can't read at all, so I give 1 month notice and pull her out. Because of covid-19 the last 2 class lesson haven't finish yet, so after phase 2 opening centre, I call them for the make up class, I Can Read staff Yvone ask me to top up money for attending the 2 last class which should be they make up for me. So this centre to me is just MONEY, MONEY in their mind. I won't recommend to other parent.

Hi All...I am wondering what is the right age to enrol the kid for the I CAN Read level 1 to 6 programme. My DD is K1 this year and is 4 years 2 months. I heard from my friend, at K1 the programme might be tough for the kid and she might stay longer in the pre reading programme. My DD is just learning to blend words. Would k2 be a more appropriate age to join the I CAN Read Level 1 to 6 programme?

It is less relevant to age.If you kid can recognize the sound for each alphabet very well, then he/she would progress to reading program level 1 soon. My girl starts at 4Y6M at pre-reading level 3 and promoted to reading level 1 very quickly within 2 months. It takes 12M to complete the level 6. If your kid progress well, he/she should be able to read independently before 6 year old. Personally I think the material needs a lot of improvement though the program is quite effective to teach kid to read. Once the kid can read fluently, then it is time to switch. I find the curriculum is very unbalanced and the teacher quality varies.

Thanks for sharing! Can you share more on your thoughts about the not so balances curriculum/materials and what you think the switch can be? 🙂
