      Hi parents. Sorry this late. The T score, how is Average and SD derived? Average is total marks scored over no of pupils take the subject? How about SD?

      Also how do we know if school this year accept lower or higher COP from last year? Eg A didnt meet the COP so dare not choose the school. B has a slightly lower score did not meet COP was bold enough to choose this same school and got in! If we try we worry we make the wrong decision for 1st choice, If we dont try, we could have got in because the school drop some points in the COP.
      SD is the spread of marks around the average that 2/3 of the enrolment scored.

            Me!! Getting more and more nervous. My girl is already soundly asleep though. Maybe I should stay home tomorrow. Just let DH accompany DD1 to school.

              I have absolutely no idea how SD is derived. Anyway, I will only assume These Tscores

              200 : Express
              230 : Most Secondary Schools
              240 : Popular Secondary Schools
              250 : IP Schools
              260 : Top 5 Schools

                Mean - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_mean

                SD - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_deviation

                Basically, once the scores for that particular subject and keyed in, the computer probably needs less than a minute to generate the mean and SD.

                  May I ask of parents need to go tomorrow or the child just go into class herself to get the results and parents wait outside? Is every school process different?

                    Example TKGS
                    COP 2018 is 235
                    COP 2017 is 231
                    COP 2016 is 229
                    Should I try if I get 231 this year?
                    Firstly, NO one will know this year’s COP until AFTER the exercise is over.

                    Assuming everyone decides not to choose NYGH and a pupil scoring 188 is brave enough to choose NYGH, that will become the COP for NYGH (unlikely to happen but stranger things have happened before).

                    Given that you have 6 choices (which is frankly, more than enough), there’s no harm in using the first choice on a slightly wilder selection (*applicable only under current t-score scenario). If you get it, great; otherwise, you move on. Remember, fortune favors the bold.

                      My boy told me that he is not going to do well for pale countless times after losing 10 marks due to his carelessness for math.I kept telling him that such results doesn’t matter to us as Long as he puts in the effort and having the determination and dedication to studying but I still feel that he can’t get over it.

                      Well,it all comes down to tomorrow,all is in God’s hands

                        Hi
                        Just finished reading the messages. I wanted to air my anxiety too.. had a 1-1 talk with my daughter just now. She feels that she doesn’t think she did well in her psle. I told her whatever it is, already done. And told her it’s ok, but She still looks sad 😰

                        Gosh..
                        :snuggles:

                        A lot of the anxiety comes from not knowing where one could go with a xxx t score (for those without DSA). There is a sudden sense of loss/lost and despair ... If you have some time before tomorrow 11am, you may want to consider drawing up a possible list of sec schools that you/your child could go to within various ranges of COP (use the Choose Your Sec School book that MOE had given out earlier). For example,
                        - score 240-249: can go A school and B school;
                        - score 230-239: can go C, D, and E school;
                        - score 220-229: can go F, G, and H school;
                        etc etc.

                        With that list in hand, no matter what the t score will be, you will feel less anxious and more secure about the next steps. At least you know that there is a school that your child can go to that is acceptable by both of you. And then both of you can start looking forward to finding more about the school(s). It will take your mind off from the emotions and focus on the positives. I hope it would work for you....
