      2020 PSLE P6 students (born 2008)

      For Maths (subject)
when school re-open in 2020 January Term 1,

perhaps can clarify with your own primary school's Maths, both ( HOD + your own P6 class Maths Teacher), whether \"Speed\", a very time-consuming, tedious, laborious practice P6 Topic

      - is not tested, inside Maths Paper 1, Section A (Multiple choice) only,

      Or

      - not tested, inside the entire whole Paper 1, both Section A (MCQ) as well as in Section B (Short-structured questions) included,

      Or

      - not tested in entire Paper 2 only,

      Or

      - totally drop off this \"Speed\" topic, from radar

If your school's Maths Teacher confirmed reply is
Totally drop \"Speed\", not inside PSLE examination scope anymore, next find out (inquire) : what (which) new Topic substitute \"Speed\" (If any) ?

      If answer is
No substitution required, then your 2020 PSLE Maths preparation, is much easier

I checked with the hod if speed will be taken out during the ptm and the hod replied nope. I noticed that the chapter about speed is still in the P6 textbook.

Do clarify with your 2020 Maths Hod

If HOD confirm that \"Speed\" is still included inside Psle scope, then continue to practise \" Speed \" questions, as per normal,

              because

this year, for us (2019 Psle batch), we 2019 P6 students spent a lot of time, so much time practised \"Speed\" questions, but in the end inside Maths Paper 2, don't recall seeing one whole question come out on \"Speed\". We expected \"Speed\" to come out in Paper 2. But on hind sight now, perhaps National exam (PSLE) do spring surprises, just like how this year SEAB spring surprise on English composition topic, \"Celebration\". We did not expect this kind of compo topic, to come out

Speed is still in the syllabus. Don’t have to take my word for it, you can read it yourself:

                https://www.moe.gov.sg/docs/default-source/document/education/syllabuses/sciences/files/primary_mathematics_syllabus_pri1_to_pri5.pdf.
Probably a good idea to print out the syllabus, burn it and drink the remains if you want to know it by heart 😂 by the way, all subjects syllabus are available online, all the way to A Level. So, don’t have to speculate what’s in and what’s out.

Not sure how the rumor started, but what’s in the syllabus and what’s being tested isn’t always the same thing (hence, there’s a term called “spotting”).

I recalled a few tuition centres advised in the parents’ briefings that Speed and Rate is one of those topics that will not be heavily tested. So if a student is running out of time and just cannot understand this topic, some tutors do recommend dropping the topic to focus on the more important topics.

For 2019 P6, "Speed" is an important topic

“Important” topic but didn’t come out in 2019. So the topic is not that important actually. The tuition centres are spot on in seeing that.
