Does it mean you went to yr affiliate sec sch? My daughter is not from an affiliate pri sch gg to an affiliate sec sch.
I think quite obviously if one is from an affiliate pri sch n gg to an affiliate sec sch, he/she will hv more friends initially.
If we are talking about 4 years of sec sch, then knowing almost the whole school is possible. Right now, my daughter has friends that spans all classes and all levels : ) They dont even talk about pri sch anymore.
Dynamics do change over time. Some of my daughter’s friends who were from the same pri sch and who used to be close in pri sch are now closer to others in sec sch from other pri sch.
To me, quantity of friends is not important.
Actually, I think it’s good for a non-affiliate to go to an affiliate sec sch. Good skill to learn breaking through an affiliate clique : )
Only speaking from my experience with one child in this environment though.

I am just sharing a perspective. From an old classmate. He joined my affiliated school whereas I hailed from the primary school. To me, walking to canteen took forever. I said Hi to everyone and mingled easily. That classmate envied me and shared his view. I accepted his wisdom and applied it to my kids. I am not saying your child has no friends. Just saying it is hard to break into cliques. If your kid is the ultra sociable kind, all is good to go! :rahrah:

My younger daughter comes from a non-affiliate nbh sch, she goes to an affiliate sec school. Her experience in sec sch is wonderful. Making friends is not an issue.
I think it might hv to do with her class not having many affiliates from the pri side next door (only 1 I recall) The affiliates in her class are not from next door. The rest of the classes are half affiliates or even almost entire classes of affiliates from next door.
My older daughter goes to a non-affiliate sec sch which is pretty competitive. That environment is a little trickier : )
This is my personal experience here.
I think the competition (academic) in a school has more impact on making friends than the number of affiliates in the school.

And making friends depends a lot on your own personality.

Which girl/co-ed sec sch has an affiliated pri sch next door and another affiliated pri sch that is not next door?

Sorry my mistake, must hv been confusing, my daughter calls all the different IJ pri friends affiliates. I think IJ TP sec is only affiliated to IJ TP pri.
There are many IJ pri in sg. When my dd was in sec1, the first few classes are mostly from other schs n other IJs not IJ TP. The CHIJ TP pri are mostly in the CHIJ sec NA classes.
Not sure if it is still the same now
In IJ sec they are allocated according to PSLE scores. In the first class (248-265+3), there was only 1 CHIJ TP I kn of. Mostly Catholics from other IJ pri.
Hence my dd had no problem making friends. None of them knew one other also.
For my dd, breaking through ‘cliques’ in the NA classes wasn’t a problem too : )
We chose this school specifically due to proximity.
Doing O levels in a nearer school is very important for us.
For IP, the ultimate destination JC is more important.

And as for cliques, not necessarily true too. Some students have never met another student even though they are from the same pri sch. On the other hand, some students from different pri schools, are already good friends because they go to the same tuition class. And also, there are cases like Anderson Pri, where most of the 23x go to the same sec sch in AMK. So one may think this sec sch has no affiliated pri but actually so many of them come from Anderson. Same for MBS and KHS, bulk of their students go to these few sec schs in the east. So my point is, you cant really predict the presence of cliques by looking at whether the sec sch has any affiliated pri sch.

Ditto sir/mdm. I have said from the onslaught this clique view was shared by my classmate who joined my affiliated school. He told me after 30 years. Feel free to disregard if it holds no truth

I think there’s more higher scores this year and they are mostly girls

I think very much depends on the child himself. My DS went to an affiliated sec sch (not from affiliated pri) but he's outgoing. He's happy there for 6 years albeit with some blood some tears and lots of sweat. My DD went to a ip JC. She's not that outgoing but she enjoyed her time there. You'll be surprised many of the affiliated kids are eager to get out of some toxic friendships to make new friends.

I was one of those students who took 3rd language and regretted. Back in the old days, we were only allowed to take max 9 subjects for O levels.

Mine were:
EL, HCL, Bio, Chem, Phy, AM, EM, Lit, 3rd Lang

Because of this limitation, I wasn’t able to take a 2nd humanity on top of Lit which is compulsory. And to enter JC, you NEED to add 1 humanity for L1R5.

In the end I didn’t fare well for Lit and my L1R5 suffered simply because of that. If I didn’t take 3rd Lang, I could have taken Hist or Geog, and I would have a back up.

So my advise is to check with the Sec sch first what are the subject combi available for S3-4, and see if there is any “conflict” with 3rd Lang.

Taonan is GEP Centre so if 50 GEP kids, and let’s assume all GEP kids got above 250, then only 70 MS kids got above 250. Don’t know what is Taonan’s cohort size though.

If i recall correctly, their cohort should be 360.

If 360 excludes GEP, then 70/360 MS is only 19.4% scoring above 250. Not v impressive then.

I was told RGPS has something like 45% above 250 and if 55 GEP kids all scored above 250, then they have about 100 out of 270 or 280 MS kids scoring above 250. That is about 35%. But I did not see the slides. I got this info from group chats.
