I remember I have this friend, who used to travel from one end (home) of the island to the other end (Uni), maybe more than 2hrs of traveling a day. End of 1st year, she just dropped out of Uni.
2 hours! Now that's commitment for you.manorway\" post_id=\"1948364\" time=\"1574505897\" user_id=\"9303:
My kids have’ friends who travel for 2 hrs a day ONE way! Personally I think it is too much. When CCA ends at 7, reach home at 9. Sometimes the kids ended up taking taxi because they are too tired. A boy we know will do homework in MRT.
I think 45 min one way, door to door is max. It is really tiring as many still have to do homework after they get home.
I can't imagine that. I used to travel about an hour, on two busses to my own school years ago. -

SCGS primary school canteen section, is combined together with the Secondary school section canteen, making it very big ?
Today my DD1 went to help out at SCGS open house. DD1 said it was packed with people. Many thronged the newly opened underpass from
Steven station right into the school. Everyone was curious about new school facilities / new expansion building and whether the sec and Pri share the same canteen etc. No one asked about the curriculum, lol. -

Used to travel 1 hr 45 mins to work. Super tiring, especially during peak hours. So yes, choose a nearer school.
2 hours, per way, is too long, so tiring ! To and fro, will be 4 hours spent travelling per day.
Choose other Secondary schools nearer, closer home -
DS did not take HCL in primary school. He would like to take HCL in Sec 1. How do we know whether he is eligible to take HCL or not? He got an A for PSLE CL and the school that he is posted to (thru DSA), offers both CL and HCL (not SAP school).
Someone mentioned to me that eligibility to take HCL will be stated in the letter together with eligibility for 3rd language. But we don’t see anything that mentions HCL in the letter. Does it mean DS is not eligible?
Thank you. -
Hi,
Can I check whether anyone can give me see information about hci and ri? I’m torn between these two. And I didn’t attend both schools ’ open houses. -

If he didn't receive eligibility letter, he can't take. But if he does well in sec 1, think he can still be offered.

You are talking top of the line. There are only so many top of the line students. Yes, demand will surge but you are looking at a surge from potential SNGS, SCGS, CGSS etc students. With all due respect to these students, they won’t be moving the needle much (if at all). At best +1 or +2 but that would be the typical movement with or without a new campus.
With a spanking new campus, I’m curious about RGS’ COP for this year. -
Thanks for your advise. But I am not sure how heavy the workload is and how demanding it can get. My girl is the eldest so I don’t have any benchmark in mind. And She isn’t keen to take up 3rd language. But of course, I am still trying to find out more before the deadline submission date. She has DSAed into IP track so my main concern is her ability to cope. Or should I encourage her to try out one term if there is no minimum period requirement? Thanks so much for your time and advise.

Let your daughter try out the 3rd foreign language, first. Don't give up, without even trying. Sec 1 is an adjustment year, gradually ease inNKTan\" post_id=\"1948380\" time=\"1574509200\" user_id=\"181287:
Hi parents,
my gal is offered a 3rd language but if she is not going to take it up, my interpretation of the S1 letter is, there is nothing I need to do.
And since she has a successful DSA application, I don’t even need to login to the S1 portal. Is my understand correct? Thanks! -
Hi luxedream,
Yes, there is an Eligibility letter from Moe, that state "your child is eligible to study a HMTL at Secondary school …". This letter is given by Form Teacher last Thur (21 Nov), together with Psle results slip, inside the same stack
Perhaps next Monday (25 Nov), give a call to your Secondary school, ask if 2020 Sec 1 students keen to study HCL, what is the best approach advised ?
Meanwhile, during this year-end Dec school holiday, see if can attend any possible "bridging Higher Chinese" tuition lesson for your son, so as to catch up past 2 years (2018 P5 and 2019 P6) quite a fair bit of HCL work that’s been taught
