Went for q and a at ri. Hci will take him at 262 if he meets the cop.toutoulang\" post_id=\"1948404\" time=\"1574511261\" user_id=\"5818:
Hi, just need some clarifications,
DS score 259 +3(HCL). His 1st choice RI (COP 258). 2nd choice HCI (COP 259)
If he is rejected by RI, will he be chosen for HCI based on 259+3 (262) or will other pupils whose score is 260 & 261 be given priority if they choose HCI as their first choice? Thank you 😊
Moe will post based on merit.
But if cop for ri is still 258, he should be able to get in.
I have a question too. What's the difference between hci and ri? My son has 260. I'm torn between hci and ri.
Do you have any information about both?
Both are independent boys schools with IP. HCI is SAP school, so HCL is compulsory, and almost 100% of the boys are Chinese. RI is not a SAP school, so it is multi-racial.
RI emphasises on leadership. HCI emphasises on entrepreneurship.
Both the schools will open an “O level class” if there are students who do not qualify to continue IP in Sec 3. For the past 2 years, RI did not open any O level class, HCI have.
All the best with your application. Both are excellent schools, you can’t go wrong with either one.
I know that the new P has been gradually easing the IP promotion criteria, but I’m quite surprised to read that RI did not have any O level class for the past 2 years. You heard this during the open house?
Perhaps the Sch is trying to dovetail with RGS in this aspect. -
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR HIGHER MTL (HMTL)
KEY CHANGES
The formal eligibility criteria for HMTL have been eased to the following:
Top 10% of the PSLE cohort; or
Top 11-30% of the PSLE cohort with A* in MTL at PSLE or at least a Merit in HMTL.
-

Confirmed no O level class at least for this batch of sec 2 (moving to Sec 3 next year). The school has been actively pulling out the weaker students to give remedial support since Sec 1. Source: current Sec 2 parents.

Yes, I heard this during the open house, I believe during the DSA talk. I was very impressed, as I assumed the teachers offer enough support to all the students including the weaker ones, so all could promote and remain in IP. It didn’t occur to me that this is due to easing of promotion criteria.

I am of the opinion that if there is no interest, just skip it and dont take. Most will take and try it for a while but if there is no interest, why go through all that? If there is little interest, then maybe try for a while. No interest, just skip. Saves travelling time, and have more time for other things (school work/ rest/ other interests). For some schools, the 3rd lang day is a fixed day, so the school day ends early on 3rd lang days, and then you see how most of them have to rush through lunch so that they can make it to the MOELC on time...and then those not doing 3rd lang can eat leisurely. 3rd lang add 2 or 3 days for cca, means every other day is a long day.
Thanks for your advise. But I am not sure how heavy the workload is and how demanding it can get. My girl is the eldest so I don’t have any benchmark in mind. And She isn’t keen to take up 3rd language. But of course, I am still trying to find out more before the deadline submission date. She has DSAed into IP track so my main concern is her ability to cope. Or should I encourage her to try out one term if there is no minimum period requirement? Thanks so much for your time and advise. -
At 248 non SAP school what are fair options?
Fairfield Methodist School
Vs
ACS Barker road
Which one? -
dears, my kid is choosing between Nanyang Girls and Dunman. We can’t tell the difference. Can anybody give some input? Thanks!

Let your girl try out 3rd language, Sec 1 first. Take one step, at a time. Reach end of 2020 Sec 1 year-end later on, then decide want to continue or drop, still can. Don't worry so much. Everyone of us also adjusting, together with your daughter. She is not alone.
Sec 1 : no need tuition.
Let her study, manage on her own.
Sec 2 : streaming at year-end, may need tuition, in certain core subjects -

With a spanking new campus, I’m curious about RGS’ COP for this year. -
Third language
Bishan centre offers which languages?
