Hi parents, this is my personal opinion regarding RV's COP,and I would be glad if you can voice out your opinions.

IMO, RV's COP will rise to about 255 as I have heard that many students did well. Moreover, RV is the only top school in the West and I am very sure that majority of the west will choose this school.
pls let me know what you think!
      :thankyou:

Sorry to deviate, may I know if schools are having same textbooks? I have some books given by friends for sec 1.

I know English is not the same, any one got any idea if Math/ Chinese/ Geo / home economics are the same for most schools?

          Thank you.

Sec 1 2020 batch, please note that the mentioned books will be the final year used by MOE: Chinese, Higher Chinese, History and Geography textbooks. If you buy new textbooks, you cannot resell them to Year 2021 Sec 1 batch.

Sec 1 2020 batch will be first batch using new Maths and Science textbooks.

Maths: Think! Mathematics Secondary Textbook 1A and Think! Mathematics Secondary Textbook 1B. Publisher: Scholastic.

OR (depends on which Maths textbook Sec Sch textbook you get on the booklist.)

Maths: New Discovering Mathematics Textbook 1A and New Discovering Mathematics Textbook 1B. Publisher: Star Publishing

Thank u & those who replied, appreciate much. I was looking ard for answer. Glad to have parents who share!

It’s difficult to check the booklist from the sch cos not too sure that child b posted to 😞
          Jus normal sch, no IP.

Guess, looks like the safer books to get now would be:
          History
          Geo
          Chinese

It’s good to recycle books. Save the earth & save money too!

This year Sec 1 reporting day is on 23rd Dec, a few days later as compared to last year. I wonder why...
              Friday : 20 Dec

              Saturday: 21 Dec
              Sunday : 22 Dec

              Monday : 23 Dec

              Difference ?

After Friday (20 dec) receive sms, Sat and Sun week-end, school vacation year end holiday time, Sat nobody working, some on holiday overseas now.

              Monday (23 dec),
the next immediate working week day, students report to new school. Only certain school staff (eg. 2020 Sec 1 Form Tr) involved, come back to assist, as well as school bus operator who still provide 1 way morning service to students, in some schools. Most schools do not provide sch bus. They said Sec 1 students big already, can go school by themselves

The remaining activities, after registration on Monday (23 dec) :
Queue up to buy Sec 1 textbook
Queue up to buy new sch uniform

Yes I also have a nagging suspicion that the COP will rise 2 to 3 points... :yikes:
Pull factors are the recent good A level results and the first Presidents' Scholar from RV's IP.
The last big changes in COP were a 5-point drop from 256 in 2013 to 251 in 2014 and a 4-point rise from 249 in 2015 to 253 in 2016. Will we see such a big swing again this year?

Doubt it will reach 255. Don’t think there are so many 255+ students to go aground. If it does improved (which is likely), it should match its high of 253 from about 3 years ago.

Just for discussion’s sake, I offer the opposing view:

RV is the only IP SAP school in the FAR west.

Not all the top scorers live near Jurong West. Some may live closer to another IP school in the central-west.

                    Some may not be Chinese.

Some may not like the uniform/curriculum.

Plenty of such reasons why some people won’t choose RV.

Don’t worry about your “competitors”. They may simply be an illusory character in your mind.

Remember someone posted this chart earlier?
If I assume it’s real, then this year’s top school COP should be up cos as we can see that there are more top scorers in 2019 compared to 2018.

Quite interesting to note that in 2018, if your tscore is 265, then you are ranked 483, and in year 2019, for the same tscore, you are ranked 730. Thus, even for the same tscore, it should never be used to compare across different cohorts.

Last year, indeed there was a large number of 23X-24X compared to this year, due to an easier paper. No wonder some 23X schools’ COP jumped as high as +7
