      (From CL perspective)

In recent years, I have noticed more parents leaning towards continuing tuition in Sec school - previously, some of my time-slots will free up due to students graduating from Pri school (parents waiting to see how they cope with the subject in Sec sch and/or worried about their lack of time due to increased no. of subjects to handle) but in the past few years, more parents have opted to continue with tuition, sometimes even during school holidays. Many mentioned that CL being a language, there isn't a need for a 'break/pause' and instead prefer consistency and continuity in learning.

Sec CL & HCL becomes more technical too (way beyond what's covered in textbook syllabus) so for many students, tuition is a chance to clarify doubts and/or consolidate their understanding, esp. on the grammar (语法) and rhetoric (修辞手法) aspects. With the themes covering more social (社会) and 'serious' (严肃) topics + passages containing more underlying/hidden meanings and cultural/CL history-related information, having more chance to interact with tutors and/or fellow tuition classmates help in their critical thinking and verbal communication skills too. 🙂

        Hi Esteema
In case u misunderstood me, my comments is not targeted at you or anyone. It’s a general statement. I agree with not signing up with mega centres who take in good students produce good students too. My gals ex HCL tutor Is a native Chinese and came via word of mouth too. Operating in small groups of no more than 6, she’s able to squeeze both CL and HCL contents including compo and oral into her 2h class. I think she value-added to my gals dismal HCL results before I got them enrolled
        :salute:

          Chenlaoshi,
Absolutely agree! You took the words out of me.

I’m sure as a ex-teacher & tutor now, u see how different kids learn in classroom settings & how they absorb during tuition time. You’re an educator good for our kids learning & grasping this language thingy. Good for you!

A little OT..... Imp75, would you be able to share the contact of your gals' ex HCL tutor? I have a friend whose dd from the same IP school as your gals is looking for a HCL tutor. Thanks!

Among the few tuition centres that we inquired, one is already fully booked for many popular time slots, another one is 80% full. I am quite surprised that there are so many parents even more kiasu than me... 😆

DD1 started sec 1 with zero tuition. Along the way, teacher called to say she needed help for her Lang Arts so I called this popular center and was told Sat/Sun slots all full and for selected weekdays left only the 7.30pm-9.30pm.

So from Sec 1 (April) onwards, I was put on waitlist till Sec 2, then I managed to get a weekend slot!!!

DD1’s class full of boys. For her class of 12 (max class size), 9 are from RI/HCI. Thus, students from top schools do attend tuition. Top schools can produce fantastic A-level results partly because their parents also very generous in providing quality tuition to assist their child along the way.

Can know which tuition centre is that? Which subjects they offer?

Coz now only Dec, S1 posting not even out, TLL IP EL popular timings already full. Not just weekend, Fri afternoon also full if I’m not wrong. But when they told me the price, it doesn’t matter anymore, coz we can’t afford it ($130 per lesson). :siam:

TLL English charge $130 per lesson, for 2 hours
can share, in what way is TLL good ?
does TLL guarantee that your child can score A1 (English) at O-level, or score Distinction for GP ?

Indigo English (2 hr), also same pricing ?

Indigo is $75 per lesson. I’m still considering which tuition centre to sign up. Anyone has any recommendations for good IP EL tuition? Please share, thank you.

Their weekend timings for pri sch are also always full. They have very good business. My niece used to go to there for IP English in lower sec
