Yan Ballet is marketed as a competition studio with elite training programmes. Depends on what you want for your kid, recreational or more serious type of ballet training. Some kids do well in competitive atmosphere, others prefer more relaxed and fun.

Cheng Ballet uses their own syllabus and exams. While the standard is high, students do not have backing of RAD cert which is fairly recognized in Singapore. Rigorous and teachers are known to be quite strict and no nonsense. However if you prefer tangible and recognized worldwide qualifications, RAD is still the way to go. There are schools that have RAD and additional elite team training

my girl has been learning ballet since 2.5 years old following RAD syllabus, she is 6 now - is it a must to learn to do split? I don’t see her ballet school enforcing this, and the ballet teacher said ballet is more of movements and split is more on gymnastics?

My daughter is complaining of muscle cramps after her session yesterday. What do you usually do to ease the pain?

How old is your daughter and how many classes does she have in a week? Mine complained of muscle sores few years ago and I was told by the teacher that it was common after they did some \"difficult\" stretching. Nevertheless, I still brought her to a nearby GP and he gave her a muscle ointment to ease the pain. Daily stretching also helps a lot. Hope she's getting better!

It is not a must to learn to do split at that age. It really depends on the teacher. Many teachers I know don’t enforce a proper stretching routine in younger classes because at that age, they may lose interest in ballet if the teacher does anything that is painful or dry. For younger classes, it’s more of learning some ballet basics in a fun environment to stimulate their interest in dance, and then only at ages 7 or 8 do they start to be more serious.
