I'm registering my boy for PH next year.. getting cold feet about it as the standard required seems to be of a much higher standard, not sure if my boy can cope with the stress 
he is already crying when doing his K2 work... 
Can any parent who has children attending the student care share their reviews? I'm considering if I should quit my job and stay home to help him with his work or to enrol him in a student care and try to devote my evenings to help him... I'm worried that with this much stress, I may not have enough time for the younger brother..
Any parents staying in CCK? is the traveling time very long? any gauge on the school bus fees? TIA!!! -

We stay at Cashew estate, small bus $70 pm. Initially the bus driver asked for $85, then some other mums made noise n got a price cut.
Afternoon session the sch bus comes ard 12nn, morning session varies among diff drivers (a short story) - 6.20am, 6.30am, 6.40am. I don't know what time the sch bus reaches sch. -

Dun worry. If you hv read this post from page 1 to here, you are already well prepared for PH environment, the what to do and what to look out for. Many mummies here have shared their valuable experiences.
Now you just need to assess your boy to see which area he needs more help in.
My humble advice - must read widely both EL and CL books. -
Btw, now that the entire stretch of upper Bt Timah is undergoing MRT downtown line construction, traffic is quite heavy during the evening peak hours and also the afternoon.
My boy used to come home ard 2.10pm, now 2.15 to 2.25pm. -
Thanks E3. How do u people know so much? Cos I thought this school did not explain a lot of things to the parents. The p1 orientation talk was the only official talk by principal. subsequent meeting with teachers don’t say much. They also don’t release their compo paper, don’t tell us the ranking by classes from classes. Getting a bit disappointed

Is your child in P1? I learnt everything about school from my dd. She finds out or listens out from friends or teachers. It's a norm for all primary schools not to let kids bring home their papers 1 but my dd's teacher did let the kids look at their English compos. The level ranking will be out after SA2 from overall results for class allocation. SA1 is too soon to do level ranking. However, if you are aiming for class Charity, your ds should be within the top 2nd or 3rd positions in class, to play safe. -

Compo papers are not released to parents…bcos it’s marked by 2 teachers. Ranking wise, it’s early to tell since it’s just SA1.
Charity, Faith, Grace - top 3 classes.
Hope, Humility, Joy, Kindness, Loyalty, Patience, Wisdom, Peace. Subject banding in the rest of the classes.
To get ahead in Pei Hwa, the child has to read extensively in both Eng and Chinese…my son refuses to read Chinese story books.

My daughter in K2 cried when she couldn’t spell some words the teacher asked her. So I sent her to RC to buck up. -
Thank u for your advice... have been getting him to read both EL n CL since last year.. hopefully it will help... He's crying just by looking at the words to learn for spelling!! :? asking me why are there so many letters in the word...
We have signed him up at British council for the next term.. hopefully it will help boost his confidence in time for PH

Hi thanks all for responding to my post.
Actually my boy is in P3 already. However, I still feel rather "new" to the school as I feel that the school does not explain their system clearly to parents. It is good if your kid is able to translate what he/she heard from teachers or friends clearly to you. However, what they hear from friends may not be true sometimes. My boy told me his friends said the classes are ranked by their first alphabet, as in charity first, wisdom last. When we tried to clarify with his then P2 teacher, we did not get a clear indication and we felt that she tried to avoid the topic of class ranking.
Then later my friend clarified with her kid’s form teacher who claimed that the classes are ranked only for Charity, Faith, Grace and Hope. Students who are not in these classes but have good Chinese results are placed in Humility. The rest of the students are placed randomly into the other classes. I think I am confused.
How do you guys feel about ranking the kids from P2 onwards? In a way, I agree that it is easier to teach students of similar ability. However, isn’t ranking done based on just one year of formal schooling a little too early to judge a kid’s ability? A lot of kids are still not mature enough at that age, and I personally feel that it can sometimes be damaging to the morale of the kid when they start to hear some other kids compare between classes. I hope there are no bad remarks passed among kids which may have destroyed the confidence in others in the lower end classes. I also hope that by ranking, the school has not deprived any students of opportunity to be exposed to more challenging methods of learning.
As for the compo, I still wish they could return the paper for parents to at least take a look. As a parent, I would like to know what my kid had written and what went wrong so that I can better help him improve the next round. If the teachers can stand up for the mark she/he has awarded, they should not be worried of being challenged. And if there are really two teachers marking one paper, all the more they should be able to justify the mark if there is really questions raised by parents.
Above said explains why I said in my previous post that I am feeling disappointed, it is about the transparency of the system adopted in this school.
