Does any KS parent here plan a studying /revision timetable for the lead up to Psle? Do you have any tips to share or even better any sample timetable that you used for your older children?

My son took his PSLE last year and entered the school of his choice through DSA. From Jan, we already kept reminding him the importance of P6 SA1 results. So instead of having 8 months to prepare (PSLE in Sep), we told him he only had 4 months (SA1 in May). Subsequently, having done well for SA1, prelims was a breeze, and pressure was off for PSLE when he received a CO for DSA.

May i know how many hours of studying a day do you get your son to do , for week days and weekends?
To be honest, although my son is in P5 now, we do feel that since the start of school, the workload has been a lot higher than previous years. It is quite a substantial increase in quantity and difficulty of the homework. I am worried that this will be the permanent situation from now all the way to P6.

So how much time should i ask him to study (including doing homework and revision of key concepts for new topics and doing extra practice to reinforce the P5 materials)? I just hope to hear from the other parents how much time you are getting your kids to study as I also don't want to be unrealistic and put unnecessary pressure on him and cause him to burn out. So how much studying a day is ok and how much is too much?

Anyone who has attended Mindstretcher ‘Preparing your child for the PSLE’ workshop?

              Is it worth to attend?

I have the same questions - anyone find the revision programmes by tuition centres useful? Learning Lab runs intensive revision programmes for all the subjects but they are so expensive! Also i am trying to send DD (PSLE this yr) to compo writing classes. Any kind mummies want to share which is good in the east?

Hi littleprince, don't worry about quantity, go for quality instead... A fren's Mensa kid (not GEP) was regularly stuffed with parents' homework, still she could not (for instance) see the solutions to the recent tricky Psle Maths questions (many of her, sorry for the expression, more average frens could solve them easily). Maybe she was so inundated, she lost the habit of thinking through problems... Eventually, though she topped her (GEP) school cohort every year, she scored low 260s during Psle. Her folks seem to realise it, & finally allow her to go to (child's preferred Sec school) Mgs (instead of Rgs), so...[/quote]
I suppose quality over quantity but the son is quite a forgetful one.
He is also not one who can get his concepts right with just 3 questions and move on. So he needs more practice unfortunately.

DS took PSLE last year. During the June holidays we sent him for TLL Science intensive class. He has never attended any Science tuition prior to that. We hoped to give him a little boost during the holidays and we heard many good things about TLL. Unfortunately, we found the class really mediocre, not worth the money spent.

For compo writing in the east, you can try The Write Connection at Parkway. Their methods are exam oriented, so you can see improvements in marks. However it’s very much just tuition, not enrichment. Coz while DS scores well for English, I don’t feel that the class enriches his writing style. For P6 final prep for PSLE I think this is ok.

If yr child is in 2020 PSLE year and attending class with TLL, best u explore exit before May esp if u’ve done a GIRO der pymt scheme. GIRO takes a mth to notify cancellation & u’ve to give a month’s notice to TLL to terminate services before u can get a refund.

We had experienced having being forced to sign up for June intensive revision classes & it’s not cheap. They claimed its targeted at PSLE brush up & then during regular lesson time, teachers enticed my kid that they’ll be nice bento lunches provided. In the end, not only they claimed bento cldn’t get & bought junk McDonald burgers but my child says practices were easy peasy & some done before.

Many parents were caught not able to cancel or terminate classes. So hv to pay last few thousands with no additional value. Thot I’d just share.

You might wanna check for compo writing classes with Writers@Work or Academia. Their classes gets fully sign-up very fast, esp for P6s.
