Double protection? False sense of safety? A comic relieve for all the tensions out there? 😂

Hearsay the virus can get into our body via eyes too. Anyway, I think the bottle idea is not that bad. It prevents you from touching your eyes, mouth, nose without realising that you are actually touching them.

DH thinks it’s going to be like H1N1, the virus will be contained and the epidemic will die off eventually.

I am grateful that China made the tough decision to lockdown Wuhan right before CNY to prevent further spreading of the virus. Right now, the community infection seems to be restricted to Wuhan and Hubei.
It is nothing like H1N1. WHO estimates that the H1N1 pandemic in 2009 killed over 200,000. This thing is less virulent than your typical flu, although the mortality rate is higher. Nobody bats an eyelid when thousands die of flu induced pneumonia, especially when the particular strain originated... somewhere else.

          Doctor’s advice from HK.

          About the virus:

          1. It is pretty large in size (cell is about 400-500nm diameter), so any normal mask (not just the N95 feature) should be able to filter it out. However, when someone who’s infected sneezes in front of you, it will take a great 3 meters (about 10 feet) before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.

          2. When the virus drops on metal surface, it will live for at least 12 hours. So remember if you come in contact with any metal surface, wash your hands with soap thoroughly.

          3. The virus can remain active on fabric for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent should kill the virus. For winter clothing that does not require daily washing, you can put it out under the sun to kill the virus.

About the symptoms of the pneumonia caused by Coronavirus:

          1. It will first infect the throat, so the throat will have the dry sore throat feeling which will last for 3 to 4 days

          2. Then the virus will blend into the nasal fluid and drips into the trachea and enter the lungs, causing pneumonia. This process will take 5 to 6 days.

          3. With pneumonia, comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You will feel like you are drowning in water. It’s important to go seek immediate medical attention if you feel like this.

          About prevention:

          1. The most common way of getting infected is by touching things in public, so you must wash your hands frequently. The virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 mins, but a lot can happen in those 5-10 mins (you can rub your eyes or pick your nose unwittingly).

          2. Aside from washing your hands frequently, you can gargle with Betadine Sore Throat Gargle to eliminate or minimize the germs while they are still in your throat (before dripping down to your lungs).

It’s alr 6061 cases as of this morning. Look at the graph & how it spiked within a short time compared to SARS.

I’m hoping MOE announce 14 days no sch to reduce public contact. We’ve many Chinese students within our many sch communities incl teachers.
Yes, I also feel the same way as Esteema, should close schools for 2 weeks, do school online e learning at home

Usually there will be a spike and then it will die off?

For SARS, the mortality rate is higher, around 10%. For the Wuhan virus, the mortality rate is lower, 6K infected but 100+ deaths so far.

That is why I asked earlier whether anyone has any idea how are the SG confirmed patients doing in our local hospitals?

Current death alr reached 132 deaths.

Coronovirus spike is currently vertical. SARS spike climbs slower. We do not know the “devil” as Xi JinPing describes the monster to be, or how long it’ll lasts (whether it’ll surpass the SARS). It may abate by Jun/Jul or the coronovirus death sickle might slash more in the coming months.

On our way to wake last night, DH spotted many SG not wearing masks & cynically claimed that those wearing masks must be a PRC. Then we saw a Eurasian/Chinese couple. DH says female is PRC for sure. I slap him for discriminating & thot it might be an SG lady. A doc frd came to pay respect at funeral but standing at a corner declare he can’t get close to us & we’ve to chat fr a distance as he states that it’s his hospital protocol no close contact. Within just a short minute, he’s driven out of carpark. No time for niceties or proper greetings.

DS hv extra one day before returning to sch officially tmr. But I’m struggling now to instruct DS not to leave home but postpone his graded project discussion. He insisted, so gave strict instructions to wear masks moment out of house & to wash his hands once reach school compound.

Best to limit going out & expose ourselves.

Parents are signing online campaign to extend holiday for next 14 days.

Help our kids remind themselves :-

Let us all not be fearful but take the necessary precautions & be socially responsible to prevent spread of the virus. Take own health into serious care.

                      Remember W-U-H-A-N :

                      W - Wash hands
                      U - Use mask properly
H - Have temperature checked regularly
                      A - Avoid large crowds
N - Never touch your face with unclean hands
