The “normal” Hong Kong summer flu of 2017 (no one bothers to give it a special name) killed over 200 people in HK over 2 months, the same number as the “deadly” Wuhan virus. You are more likely to catch pneumonia and die from the flu than from 2019-nCoV. The 2009 H1N1 swine flu originating from North America was all over the world before anybody raised any alert. Of course, you cannot call it the American Swine Flu. That's just politically incorrect.
That said, the same precautions apply to both corona and flu virus. Forget about the mask. Wash your hands often, don't touch your face, and don't share food.
A bit late now, but take a flu jab. You don't want to be quarantined just because you caught a flu bug.
