hockey is very well supported by the school. my girl tells me the school provides transport when the hockey girls go for competition while her cca girls have to take their own public tpt as they train externally also. I'm not sure about the weekly training though.
Hello Parents - I seek some guidance and help. My daughter who is in Sec 1 has been given Hockey as CCA. While it was my daughter's last choice. We were not aware that CCA will be held in Jurong which is way too far from where we live and secondly the schedule is very intense, for Feb it is almost daily.
Are there parents here with this CCA? How did your daughter cope? Looking forward to some response. Thanks
During competition period, u can expect intense training. Usually it tapers down after competition. But I believe most sports cca are 3x a week. Mine train at least 4x a week.
If i remember correctly, there is avenue for appeal if your girl really want to join another cca. -

Thank you for your inputs. I understand that girls taking Sports CCA will have to eventually opt out of 3rd Lang malay. This is another thing which we were not aware of. -

they don't \"have to\" eventually opt out, but some realise in the weeks to come that it is actually quite boring / draggy, esp if there is no interest. Most of them who sign up for MSP did so cos it was an option available to them and daddy mummy tell them it is useful language to learn since we are surrounded by malay neighbours.

Also it is not really something necessary. If they are taking HMTL, they don't need the 2 bonus points from taking MSP.
At the end of the day, the school only encourage the pupils to take 8 subjects. And malay is the last subject the girls want to focus on. -

My daughter doesnt have HMTL so bonus points is holding us in MSP.
Understand that form teacher had announced it in the class. So let's see how it goes. -
Hi I am taking PSLE this year and don't know which school is better - River Valley High or Crescent Girls' School.
Pros of CGS- Heard that the students there are well-behaved and teachers are strict but dedicated. They have been doing quite well in their O-levels for the past few years. I also prefer girl schools.
Cons pf CGS- Just the distance. It takes about 45min for me to reach there by train and 20min by car. My younger brother is also in Lower Primary, parents are working too, so it is very inconvienient for us. Parents also don't encourge me to go to CGS because of the long distance.
Pros of RV- The distance is about 3 times shorter than CGS.
Cons- Parents not really happy with students' results these few years, a lot of good teachers leaving the school too due to stress and standard has dropped. It is also a CO-ed school but I prefer girls' schools.
Overall, I am looking for a school that has good academic results and behaviour, along with good teachers and a condusive environment. I do not care a lot for CCAs and I hope that someone will be able to help me out.

do you want to face another National exam called "O" level, 4 years later, in Year 2024 ?
This is the first cut of elimination, in decision-making.
Just like in your PSLE Science Multiple-choice MCQ questions, how to do elimination as the 1st step, out of 4 tricky choices A, B, C, D ?
throw out all those obvious, unlikely wrong MCQ answers first, correct ?
Likewise,
If not keen to take O-level, forget about Crescent, head straight to IP-bound River Valley High.
only you yourself know, what u want.
Minimum Tscore last year for RV, was 25x. To hit 25x, minimum must score at least 85 & above, per subject.
at this point in time, just study hard
When PSLE results are out in Nov 2020, will be in a better, clearer position to assess, which Sec school to choose. Now is only April. Why want to confine, narrow down and restrict yourself, to only these 2 schools ?
can cast your fishing net wider, consider other schools too
But if u prefer All-Girls school, so as do not get distracted by BGR [Boy-Girl teenage relationship] , safer to stick to Crescent.
On the other hand, there is another group of parents [and students] that prefer co-ed Secondary schools, instead of "All-Girls" schools … -

Your parents think CGS is too far. And your parents are also not happy with RVHS results. So what is their choice?

But if I were you, I would go with your preference, and in this case, it looks like CGS wins with “girls school” since both schools meet the other criteria you set. -
Hi, do you think Crescent girls is better than Cedar girls or vice versa?
-
Hi parents,
Would anyone have the list of school bus service providers for CGS, please? -
distance shouldn’t be much of a factor if there are other good things about the school that you can’t find in other schools. For example, a lot of people in crescent travel long distances to come to school, but they find out different ways to utilise that time in a useful manner.
