Err. Got pre-requisite for F Math. You must pass A Math in order to take F Math (don’t think there was a grade attached to it though).
That’s right. I took F Maths in JC. I think during my time, there was no pre requisite, but while we started off as 9 classes taking F Maths, I think the final number of students in the exam hall was way below the initial number.
...
I scored F9 for A Math in prelim (total score barely double digit) and wasn’t allow to take F Math. Even though my argument was sound - I have more than enough subjects to make up L1R5, and Math is an easy peasy A1, plus O Level will SURELY score much better, the school refuses to give way to me until O Level result was released

Actually, the focus of this conver is not about how impt or obess taking 4H2.
What is the obsession with taking 4H2s?
I'm also curious if what winsomelosesomee says about nyjc offering 4H2 regardless of results is fact or not, and about \"NY has enough resources to cater to this, not worried overall results affected or not.\" and a host of other claims
I can understand maybe a B3 or B4 should get a shot at taking subject at H2 level if that is his \"passion\", but a C5/C6? Even A1 students have a lot to do in H2, let alone C5/C6 who seems not to have grasp the fundamentals well yet. (I supposed we are largely talking about the Math and Sciences and not so much about the humanities.)
Anyway offering 4H2 is one thing, how many students stick to 4H2 to the end is another thing. I supposed we won't have such statistics.
Its not so impt, imo.
Focus is Ny is willing to work with its students' interests and offer 4H2 as long students initiiate. -
I guess having 4H2 keeps the options open, since u need a minimum of 3H2 for university calculation? So if you’re not sure which are your best 3 subjects, it’s good to have 4H2 initially and then drop the weakest one if can’t cope.
Versus, being forced to choose 3H2 and can’t upgrade/switch combi later even if you want to. -
Yes, zac mom hit right on the nail.
She explained it very well, so clear. -

Applaud 👏Ny for being flexi in 4H2 take up, not just based soley on yr R5 result. Thats align with MOE- cant judge a person based on 1 National exam seating.
Ny gives 4H2 opportunity to all its students and has enough resources to cater to this, not worried overall results affected or not.
Ny believes if students want it, Ny will do it best to give you.
1 of the Right stuff from Nyjc.
Some JCs require students to attain a certain L1R5 raw score before allowing to take 4 H2.
We went to ACJC open house and was told students taking 4 H2 must have L1R5 raw score of 8. -

what winsomelosesomee said, is correct
is not about how important or how obsessed one is, taking 4H2
In fact, nothing to do with obsession.
On the contrary, is their intelligent, smart way of exam strategy preparing high-stake A-level exam.
Why high-stake ?
entrance to university faculty, mah
When apply to a specific University faculty, they look at your UAS (University Admission score)
Higher your UAS, higher the chance of u entering into the faculty, although some faculty also require interview
Hence, every point counts !
Do u realize that those wise students intending to take 3 H2 + 1 H1 -
their A-level strategy is to take 4H2, first ?
so that first, they are able to get the chance and the best golden opportunity to get maximum learning exposure out, to a much broader Topical scope as compared to H1 limited score (same subject), learn much more, learn as much as they can in JC1 first , for the same identical subject.
And then one year later in JC2, lo and behold, see, before sitting for high-stake August / September A-level examination, they can request to drop back to H1 level. That's why have u heard of some people sharing in other thread that my goodness, got some students last minute just before taking A-level exam, they dropped to H1 level ?
think people so foolish, last minute then drop to H1 ?
think is because alamak, they cannot cope, hence drop from H2 to H1 ?
Of course not, they are smart, already pre-plan this strategy, long time ago
And then when they collect results on released A-level day, what happen to this H1 subject ?
They aced !
due to smart exam strategy implemented !
on the other hand, of course those confident enough to do well in H2, still continue take H2 exam, no need to do anything, no need to drop to H1 -

what Parent said, is correct
some JCs will look at the student's Original RAW score (L1R5) first, before allowing student to take 4H2 vs 3H2. The Nett score, to these JCs, somehow they deem that even though can meet the JC's official COP, is still not good enough. This point is also valid, because compare 2 JAE students with Nett 8, entering ACJC
who u think, perform better at GCE O level ?
student with Raw 8, or
student with Raw 12 (minus 4 bonus points) ? -

This yr, Nyjc received more than 750 J1 students from about 90 secondary, MSHs , PLMGS, st nick , xinmin etc etc a lot of academic good Sch in The North, Northeast region to feed into Nyjc, it’s fengshui n convenient strategic location attracts .
schools all over Singapore.
Prior this yr, was about 80ish sec all over Sin.
Not true popular among North/NE sec schs only.
Students still willing to travel far to their desired JC, if they deemed that its worthwhile to go Ny.
