There are few things to consider now.

      1) AL band PSLE system will most likely change the way affiliated schools offer discount points to affiliated students. I believe MOE will most likely to announce details soon.

      2) There are currently no exam for P1 and P2 students and their first exam will be in P3 SA2. Which mean all students will have a good 2 years to catch up regardless of starting point.

      3) Primary school in Singapore will no longer have GEP or top classes and this will make it less stressful for both parents and child. So RGPS will almost operate like a normal school except they have banding classes for high ability learners

      4) School proximity is important factor to consider when choosing primary school. e.g morning traffic along BK road.

      5) Beside academic excellence, you should also consider the different CCA program offer by the school.

        Hi all,

Im thankful for your suggestions, this is 1 of the reasons why I seriously considered enrolling my dg into RGPS.
Some out of context points in my consideration

        1. very active feedback from parents on this forum, as school is competitive and you may or may not realize, the RGPS thread is always most active and now counting at 654 pg! (PRO)

        2. V. Competitive environment where students from different backgrounds convene, most backgrounds are affluent, this is my observation based on RGPS location. BTW, they share a sports hall with neighbor school. I believe is NYPS. (Con)

        3. Rather old facilities when I peruse the school. Looks like every school morning, could be a nightmare for drivers. School bus is a must. I cant expect to drive her to school and be on time. (Con)

        4. Further on to late primary, where CCA activities are frequent, she may miss school bus and will have to come home by herself. Its a long un sheltered walk from school to nearest bus stop. From what I notice, its a hilly walk too.
Pls advise if you know of any shortcut from a side door of RGPS which leads to the main road. I’ve only peruse facilities once.

        5. I won’t dwell on the non affiliation con since the new Band scores and how MOE may design future affiliations between pri & sec , this will just be another guess game. (Neutral)

        6. I have recently started loading programs on to my DG. programs such as abacus, piano to assess her learning ability. She reads now but I would’nt expect her to be an expert. 1 aspect I know from my time at RGPS, most girls are well rounded and expected to be. Most if not all, take up an extra skill (piano / gymnastics / Olympaid maths / Dance) and excel in them. Its rare to find girls who only do what they are taught in school. Primary the 4 main subjects taught. As such, the environment advocates a holistic learning environment, not forced by the school, but rather the natural kiasu ness from the girls and their parents in general leads to this state.
        (Pro for me)

        7. Teachers have a KPI to ensure a high (pass) score rate and this is more so for such an academically driven school. I have experienced with my older child in another mid tier primary school where teachers have produced 100% failures in an entire class and have the cheek to face parents. This teacher is still alive and on the same job, why? this is beyond me. (Pro)

        8. RGPS is a good school with many resources to equip students with the best possible learning experience. In my time with RG, well known authors / speakers have been invited to give talks to the children, this happened for my period of study and was as frequent as weekly sessions. I didn’t see this with my child’s current school. (Pro)

I have 2 girls in RGPS, one graduated in 2017 and one is in P4 this year. I was a parent volunteer and stay > 2km from the school. This is my personal view on RGPS :

          1) RGPS has upgraded its facilities in 2015 and added a theater hall, and new basketball courts etc. However, due to limited land space, they share the track & field facility with their neighbour National Junior College. RGPS also
          offers afters school care service.

          2) Traffic is bad in the morning along Hillcrest Road, which I have been dealing with it for the last 9 years.
Alternatively, you may take the MRT @ Tan Kah Kee station. Going to the bus stop will take a 10mins walk. But I
believe most schools have bad traffic jam in the morning, not just RGPS.

          3) Most students in Singapore send their children to enrichment classes, music, coding, art, ballet classes. And many students have tuition, not just RGPS. But I noticed many RGPS students attend their enrichment classes at more \"premium\" enrichment centres. This could be the parents find these centres offer more advanced level of
courses and the teachers are more experienced. My girls only attend 1 enrichment class, on top of their music
class. Many of their classmates attend 2-3 tuition classes though.

          4) I attended most Teacher meetings & HOD briefing and found the parents are very much concerned about their children's progress, both academic and character development. Teachers always follow up with weekly emails and the App (Class Dojo) to keep us updated on our girls' progress and what were taught in class.

          5) My girls really enjoy their time in RGPS. The girls are more vocal, confident and well behaved. A small number of parents may find the school competitive. I think most important you have to access your child if she is comfortable in such environment.

          6) RGPS is not affiliated to RGS. So if you are concerned about getting a \"safety net\" for the child's Secondary education, then you will have to consider transfer school in P3/4, or select those with affiliation. I am not concerned about this. The % of RGPS students scoring above 250 is around 40-50% on average each year. So they are able to enter good Secondary schools. From my observation, 60-80 girls got into RGS each year. My elder one did well (in fact beyond my expectation as she was quite \"relaxed\" in her study) and joined RGS.

          7) Many RGPS girls aspired to get into RGS as the culture of both school are quite similar. However, quite a number of RGPS top performers chose NUS High and NYGH lately.

Most important, you must know your children well and manage your expectation. Always talk to your children to find out their concerns and work together. Just my 2cent view. Hope it helps 😄

Hi everyone, may I know if my child stands a good chance for RGPS if we are Singapore Citizens staying within 1km to the school? I was checking the stats and couldn’t find a recent detailed one that indicates the # of <1km, 1-2km applicants. Thank you!

Thanks @davischew! The stats in the table shows up to 2017. Hence I was a bit worried about the stats for recent years.

I remembered 2018 and 2019 were the same. So get ready for P1!
