      mckenzy:
to be fair, if its a girl... i noticed that the 'mummy' has to handle the sleepless nights and us daddy's just sleep blissfully away... AND vice versa...

sometimes i still pop over to my 10 year old boys room to have a sleepover... end up, the master bedroom nobody!
Everytime I sleep on the same bed with my children, I get kicked in the face, stomach, and finally off the bed. It's worst than a football match.

Everytime I invite both my kids to sleep with me when my dh is away, I ended up feeling like a hamburger being sandwich between the two of them. The whole night I can't move. It's like a N-S magnet. Ended up, I have back ache in the morning.

          I just saw this post…

I kinda ‘threw’ daughter out when she was 4 months old. We slept with her in between us for the first 3 months (it made feeding easier) and we not rely on the monitor to let us know when she’s awake in the mornings.

I have 2 cousins (1 boy, 17 years and a younger sister P4) who are BOTH still sleeping with my uncle and auntie. They started sleeping with them from young and have never been successful in being moved out. (Not sure how hard they try though…)

hmmm.. interesting topic to rant on.. my ger who is 4 this yr stil slps between me and hubs but guess it started off as she was the first child den & i wanted to bond more with her before she slps as im a FTWM & she spent the whole day with e caregiver already.. now my #2 boy i started him off having him sleep in his cot alone & having the cot at the same room with the caregiver next door.. everything worked out fine & was even planning soon i can get my ger to shift out of our room too.. but lately the weather starts to get humid & we had to utilise the air con (which we usually dun as both my kids have super dry skin & adding to hubs having asthma).. when its bed time.. we had to 'chase' the lil boy out of the room n tel him its bedtime.. i started to feel bad.. of not having him around in the room too wif us.... hence lately i gave in.. lost the battle.. & now.. wat i get is.. punches & kicks & backaches coz our bed is just not enuff for 4 of us.. 😐 & yesh.. it was my own choice.. so..

Chief, I understand your pain, literally. My DD actually slept in her own bed in her own room from day one back from hospital. Somehow, can't remember actual cause now, she ended up sleeping with us most of the time. I think it was partly cos I breastfed her and we'll just fall asleep together.

Then, since she is such a giant, I started getting assaulted in my sleep and having sleepless nights. And this was when she was 2-3 yo. My DH was spared cos no matter how much space he gives her, she always rolls over to my side and steals my bolster or use me as one. If she turns the other way and has her feet next to my face, I'm doomed. Worse is when she turns perpendicular to me. I don't even know how she finds the space to do that!

Finally, at about 5 yo, my DH convinced DD to sleep on a mattress on the floor next to our bed. She would be moved over after she fell asleep cos we don't go to bed as early as her (8+ p.m.). If we don't do this, she'll wake up at night and cry, and my DH will have to go over to soothe her, a few times each night. I gave in to the \"mattress idea\" after suffering from cranky DH syndrome for a few weeks.

Luckily, I think rearranging the furniture in her room plus big new child-friendly bed and me telling her how me and my sis slept on our own from young did the trick. I also gave her the ultimatum, sleep on your own and stay in your room till morning before you start P1 or be treated like a baby by me. Soon after that, there was success, and it has stayed that way ever since. Thank goodness!

P.S. Now, if she crawls into our bed on weekend mornings, she will not stay long cos it's uncomfortable due to lack of space. 😉

                Hiya

I just came across this topic. Right from the day DS came home from KKH, he sleeps in his own cot in another room. I sleep on single bed next to his cot for 1st 2 mths. It was tough cos need to wake up pick him up from cot, feed him and put him back to sleep every 3 hrly. By 3rd mth, managed to regulate his feedings to 11pm, 3am and 7am. He also sleeps very well after a full feed, which i was indeed very blessed. By the time i wean him off breastfeeding (around 8 mths old), he no longer needed the nite feed. It was just 11pm and then 7am.

When i went back to work after 3.5 mths of leave, it was very tough for me since I was the one who had to do the feeds, so i asked my boss to allow me to go in half an hour late. At that time I stayed 4 bus-stops away from workplace, which was superb. After the 7am feed, DH would take him to IFC so I could go back to catch 40 winks b4 waking up at 8am to get ready to leave home by 8.45.

Now, after his last bottle, brush teeth, say his prayers and DH or I will spent about 15 to 30 mins max with him singing or just laying next to him, he will fall asleep. At times, he does wake up and drag his pillow and dinosaur to squeeze in with us. On weekends, he will join us to "lai chuang" and have his morning milk in our bed.

After hearing from friends and cousins and sister, we decided that it is best to start from day 1, rather than having problem getting them to sleep on their own at a later stage.

It wasn’t an easy time for us, especially me. DH knows that he is very lucky to be spared doing any nite duties, except when DS was sick and needed nite watch. He is doing his part too, which during weekends, hes the one who has to take care of DS almost 80%. We think it was worth the few months of effort to prevent years of fustrations and tantrums.

Both my children sleep with me while Daddy ends up in the children's room. Tried putting my elder (now 3 yo) in his \"own big bed\" for a period of time, but was difficult cos he kept waking up in the middle of the night crying for me! And my younger (now 14 m) sleeps with me cos she hates her cot.....kept waking up (even from deep sleep) everytime we try to put her down.....so we gave up after a while.

Every once in a while, I'll ask the elder whether he wants to sleep in his own big bed, but he usually says \"yes, if mama also sleeps with me\".
                    Sigh! 😞
Still, I shall persevere! Maybe I need to re-do the room a bit and make it more friendly for the 2 of them to sleep in.....then my hubby can finally sleep in his \"own big bed\"! 😉

Are you breastfeeding your 2nd child? If you are, most probably its your smell that she find comforting/secured. You can try leaving one of your worn shirt next to them. One of my friend tried this and it works for their 2 yo. You can start off with nap time, then you sleep with elder in his bed and when he falls asleep, then you leave. Let your DD sleep with you and then move her to her bed with your shirt.

Hope it works for you. :celebrate:

The smell of a breastfeeding momma's breasts/chest is
intoxicating to a bb definitely, thats why they like to cling
to the nipple even after they are full. Ouch. Dun miss the
                        biting! Yikes!
