milk powder, cooking oil or olive oil fly off the shelf, in US supermarket

https://www.news18.com/news/world/people-have-gone-crazy-americans-wake-up-to-coronavirus-panic-as-milk-bleach-fly-off-shelves-2537157.html

Honestly, during the frenzy buying, I find Singaporeans orderly and did not cause any public nuisance.

I saw a video of two Australian aunties slapping each other over toilet paper at the supermarket. In China, one lady dragged a sack of rice while another cried and sat on it.

For the videos from America, very weird to see that some just buy a whole trolley of fresh milk ONLY and another one bought a whole trolley of fresh eggs and NOTHING ELSE. I mean, won’t these expire in 2 weeks time? Sorry to say my impression now is that average Americans are not just obese, their IQs also....

I accidentally liked your video. Where did you get your insight on USA stereotypes. I went to USA last year, I did not think they were all obese or of low IQ - having travelled east coast to west coast. The percentages were no different than any other country - seems 36% in US are obese, like a majority of the world. I used the credible source to inform my judgement: https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/obesity-rates-by-country/

These are trying times, and an unprecedented situation we live in. I do not begrudge bulk buying; I do agree panic buying is irrational. When I go bulk buying shopping, it’s for the essentials for my elderly father, his elderly neighbours and then my family.
Hello! When did I say ALL Americans are obese or of low IQ??!!

If you look at the obesity rate of Singapore, China, etc, we are around 6%. You can’t compare with those small Pacific islands, they have limited resources and they feast on junk food like Spam and corned beef sent by Americans as aid.

Oh if you think they aren’t obese or are slim and whatever, so be it lah, none of my concern actually.

Star,
I don’t wear masks when out. Only bring at least 2 in my bag, for emergency or when I feel uncomfortable someone sneezing/coughing not within my control. Thankfully, i don’t often meet such socially objectionable behaviour these days.

me too, i bring one or two in my bag, din really wear , people cough, i detour away.
i use hand sanitizer more often and use tissue papers, tear small pieces of papers to pull door handles, press lift buttons etc in office, i wash hands dunno how many times 😞 in my 8+ hrs at work

Yap. I’ve skin peeling as usual esp now hv increased washing. I’ve no choice depend on helper since I’ve skin peeling problem doing any type of washing. Now, I’m subjected to skin peeling just for washing. Feel how our frontline medical personnel are suffering in their jobs - masks marks, sweating inside layers of protective masks & covers. I’m sure those who hv to put on double/triple head protection for hours might suffer hair loss as a result, not to mention missing families as some stick to strict protocol to distance themselves after Dr Chao’s example during the SARS. I see their life saving, sacrificial hearts and pray they’ll see how sacred their efforts are for these sacrifices. :salute:
Constant washing of hands and using of hand sanitizer do cause skin to peel / dry!

Let’s not get overly worried about the next “big wave” coming. With the latest travel restrictions (on a global scale) kicking in, we may even see a reduction in the number of cases soon.

I will stick to “not sick no need wear mask”. Surgical masks not very effective in keeping out virus and if you watch carefully, many are not even wearing their masks correctly!

For masks, Raffles Hospital’s Raffles Connect app.

I bought through them as I trust their quality. There was a brief period OOS but supply has come in recently & they said can collect already.

They even set up a pop-up kiosk next to the Fun Toast outlet so that u don’t need to enter the hospital & worry about catching infections.

Fair warning though, the pop-up store can get crowded with long Q, depending on demand.
zac's mum, was the queue long when you went? (and around what time was that?)

Ordered on 17 Feb, email regarding collection only arrived on 5 Mar but I have yet to collect. 😓

On a side noted, received the coupon for free sanitizer in mailbox today.

Not a single mask for my kids despite commuting over 20 mrt stations daily. Rather stick to building up immunity instead. Parents must be steady, children will then believe.

Not a little credit. I think it’s a big credit.

Without Wuhan locking themselves down right before 春运, it could have been 10 times or 100 times worse.

China shouldnt be taking any credit . Their health care professionals were were flagging out the new virus in December. They totally suppressed them . Forget being proactive, they acted only when things were blowing up out of control . If the Wuhan lockdown happened atleast 2 weeks before Chinese new year , a lot of travel in and out of Wuhan could have been avoided. The spread would have been so much lesser.
Make no mistake , this epidemic sits is on China's shoulders. Other countries have mismanaged but China takes a major blame

At this stage, what is the point of saying it’s China’s fault. The same argument could be said for the officials in Italy etc. They didn’t identify the series of pneumonia cases and despite the substantial advance notice they received, they just allowed the epidemic to get out of control. A mortality rate of 6% which is even higher than that in Wuhan!

Locking down Wuhan when the Spring festival was just 2 weeks away? I could understand the officials’ dilemma. Of course in hindsight everything was crystal clear but at that point in time when information was patchy who could say for sure.

To be fair, Covid-19 could happen in any country. This time round, it originated from China. It could have come from Indonesia or Africa. The PRCians aren’t the only ones eating bats or other wild life.

I believe we ordered around the same time (when RH first launched their promo). Emails came in around same time also 5-7 March.

I collected on the first possible opportunity once they opened, ie. Monday 9 March, 11am+ Long Q as expected. When I left, the Q was even longer becos the office lunch crowd came to pick up during their lunch hour.

IMO the waiting time was made longer because of the manual outdated method of distribution: the counter staff had printed out stacks and stacks of our order forms & sorted them into batches based on the barcode number. When each customer stepped up to collect, they had to sieve thru the relevant stack of paper to find our order. Then we had to sign on the paper to indicate that we had collected.

Wish they have wised up by now and have a few laptops with search function! The app is so high tech but the collection process...does not utilize technology. Weird.

Possibly, now is a good time to collect because most would have chiong-ed to collect already? Sorry I haven’t passed by recently.

I see. Thanks for the explanation. After seeing the spike in imported cases, especially last night, I was worried about my girl as her teacher left earlier for an overseas trip. The rock has been moved away from my chest.
how are schools going to check each class of students whether they have travelled overseas or not, during this one week Term 1 holiday break, from Sat 14 March to Sunday 22 March ?

What if parents or students lied, actually flew overseas with kids & family, but never report to school, instead choose to keep quiet hoping that fellow classmates didn't know, so that their child can escape 2 weeks of LOA, so that their child able to continue attending school lessons ?

Then how to verify ?
ask their class Form Teacher to check the students' passport, one by one, in order to verify ?
Passport is the best way, to verify whether student had exited Singapore, or not

so if every primary school Mainstream class have around 40 students per class, Form Teacher to check each & every single [P1 to P6] student's passport ?

BECAUSE

I recalled that for Secondary schools,
just one or 2 days before Term 1 holiday started, Form Teacher rang up the class' parents, to inform parents to fill up the \"Travel Declaration form\".

Question is,

possible scenario ...

What if initially during filling up the \"Travel\" form, parent replied \"Not leaving Singapore\".
But then once the holiday started, feeling bored staying at home, these parents decided to change their mind, decided to go short week holiday ?
Means the info or form initially submitted to class Form Tr : was wrong, because in the end, these parents still left Singapore, went overseas holiday mah

Hence, checking students' passport to verify, is the best way. Cannot run away from the truth, inside Passport content

I see, thanks for sharing, zac's mum. Initially, I was wondering how come there's no news regarding the collection. Hmm, not very eco-friendly too.

I was thinking of collecting both the RH surgical masks and sanitizer next Monday since Bugis Junction and Bugis+ are one of the collection points for the latter, but just noticed the collection time for sanitizer is from 3pm to 9pm for weekdays. 🤷
