To have offered parents an option, it is purely out of goodwill. The centres can hide behind the Force Majeure clause to avoid refunding consumers. Ask CASE or MOE to step in to intervene? I am doubtful though as Govt seems to want to support the small businesses through these difficult times.
Shut for a month I can accept. If shut then shut, take it as a “holiday” or break if it’s a non-crucial exam year like P4.
But we were never given this option. Straightaway unilaterally force us to adopt their e-learning solutions, when we paid for in-person lessons. That’s what I can’t swallow.
One of them, their e-learning platform already there since Dec, I never even logged in cos optional. Obviously they can see we are not keen on it.
If tuition/enrichment centres are forward looking, then for their long term business prospects, they should offer parents options or even refunds.
M music school has sent out a notice, they will allow students to suspend for the month of April, or try out Zoom, or do replacement classes during June/Sep holidays. Not bad, at least I feel that I have not been shortchanged.
Zoom sounds like self learning from YouTube.
Personally, I have not tried it. Maybe it’s a good opportunity for parents try it out, it’s like video conferencing when one can’t have face to face meetings in office. -

Yes, it came as a shock to many of us, because we think virus only affect certain industry like tourism hotel, entertainment cinema karaoke night-club, dancing pub, airline travel transport, retail shopping centre, makan food & beverage liquor, beer / wine drinking, healthcare hospital, nursing home industries.
Ironical that it’s the Covid-19 which “KO” the billion dollar tuition industry in SG.lee_yl\" post_id=\"1968819\" time=\"1585297072\" user_id=\"17023:

Everything just go haywire
Yes, everything just go haywire. I suppose one reason why OKY tries not to shut down schools/childcare services, is that it will cause all the parents (esp those working full-time) to go haywire. TBH, tuition/enrichment are optional, just one month of absence won’t make much of a difference bah.
Sorry but can’t help thinking, earlier when tuition/enrichment centres still continue operating at full steam, parents are worried (esp if teachers are from China) and complained, now that G shuts them for a month, parents get upset and also complain.
But, never think of lock-down Tuition (enrichment) centre, 5 weeks (27 /3 to 30 /4)
That’s not the end of the story yet, still too early to tell. If the whole thing blow up, Tuition/enrichment centres may not even reopen in May/June.
Sometimes the logic is a bit weird. If parents can go office for meetings, with fewer than 10pax in a room setting, why tuition/enrichment centres cannot do the same? Why must shut down? Entertainment centres like pub, cinema, karaoke etc, I can understand, and in fact, they should have been shut down earlier! However, other entertainment centres like MBS/RWS and Universal Studios still function as per norm?

I like the new arrangements. HBL once a week.
phew..suspension of CCAs and start HBL tho once a wk..good enough for now
Now, the next pressing issue to resolve is PEAK HOUR commuting using MRT Trains. Packed like sardines within an enclosed space, where got 1m apart?!
My thoughts, maybe everyone should put on a surgical mask during the peak hour commute in the train? Say from 7.30am - 9.30am and 5.30pm- 8pm, compulsory to have a mask on before entering the platform? Sanitize hands before we board the train cos commenters may need to hold the hand rails?
Of cos, I understand when I’m not sick, and wearing a surgical mask, it does not really protect me. But if the person sitting/standing next to me from Pasir Ris to Jurong is an unknowing virus carrier, during the entire journey, he would have his mouth covered, like everyone else, and that might reduce the chances of me (and everyone else near him) from getting the virus.
I think the problem is, we do not having enough surgical masks for the entire 6.5mil population for daily use, but I suppose reusable cloth masks or even covering with a handkerchief is better than nothing. You can ask the virus carrier to stop yakking in the train but you can’t stop that person from coughing/sneezing or even to open his mouth wide and yawn without a mask.
That said, I don’t like the idea of chopping down trees (to make all the disposable masks). -
Been following the threads about tuition impacts; just wondering why no one is talking about mums and dads working with their kids at home. Use assessment books, TYS, YouTube and focus on core work. F@@k piano, chess et al! It’s the school work that’s important, and surely you lot can do that yourselves. I’m doing the same here in England. In fact, I’m able to supplant the school work and practise GCSE and A Level questions with my sons. You lot are so reliant on tutors, it’s worrying.

Yes I did that for Primary 1-3. But seriously, for upper primary and going on to PSLE, us parents need the tutors with experience on exam tips and techniques. Just reading the TYS answers does not enlighten us parents or kids on how to ace the PSLE.

Yah, should ask all to use mask on crowded public transport , provide hand sanitizers at platform too , now we can make , not ex. This is one way to help in social distancing n protection in situation where by space is limited in trains , bus in peak hours.
beside ONLY e learning, also can alternate diff levels to go Sch n stay home e learn. LIKE THAT can free school physical space for teachers, Sch staff, students etc. The recess canteen is still crowded though there are staggered breaks. , my kids said canteen can’t make space for 1m distance q n alternate seatings ? But they do sit according to class, lesser pupils per table. In class though exam style seating but still not one meter gap -
