BBC reporting on scientific modelling of public health benefit of school closure on coronavirus spread. Potential non-immediate mental health, educational and socio-economic costs.

      %5Bhttps%3A//www.bbc.com/news/amp/health-52180783

      The original review paper -

      %5Bhttps%3A//www.thelancet.com/journals/lanchi/article/PIIS2352-4642%2820%2930095-X/fulltext%5D

Interesting summary of social distancing options in school, and suggestions of phrased re-opening.

By the way, \"social distancing\" in some other countries is 2 meters minimum.
2 meters has its scientific testing & studies backing. I saw a video on Japanese scientists testing under high power lighting to show spread of droplets fr speach & particles fr cough & sneezes. The projections fr such action spew really far.

Ano highlight is the benefit of open windows & 2-way outlets as such viruses disperse fast into opened windows & if into sunlight it’ll vaporize by UV.

I’m hoping MOH & authorities will recommend all office premises, schools, dormitories, hotels, airports, restaurants, buses, trains, CCs, malls open up all air-conditioned premises & sanitize every nooks & corners before the circuit breaker timeout ends. Step-up cleaning for those essential services locations by adding manpower for cleaning & sanitizing. I’m sure some who’ve lost jobs wldn’t mind doing a bit to contribute to restring us back to clean & hygienic environment. This window opportunity best when everyone starts to stay home. Just my thots.

        1. Better to quickly disperse the 20,000 of them to Changi Airport terminal 2 for isolation, just spread them out for actual social distancing.

        2. BMT just got postponed, right, so use the barracks to hold these FWs lah.

        3. How about old schools, SERS flats waiting to be demolished etc.

MOH should quickly advise on the best mode of isolation for these FWs so why they soooo quiet?!

This dormitory 20, 000 people clustered together, is a very serious issue.
No social distancing, in the way they live at these dorm.
All cluttered together, pity them also in the manner they live, living like chicken inside a coop

This issue, must tackle fast !
If don't escalate, virus \"explode\", situation deteriorate further

        Because

if those 20,000 foreign workers inside the dorm have girl friends who are mainly maids, then these maids will pass virus to the auntie and uncles, their children or grand children, inside their HDB / condo / private property family household, jialut

And once their school-going children get hit or infected, if school were to re-open after 30 April, other fellow class-mates and school-mates will get it from them

No outsiders into dorm compound. They’re watched very closely with police stationed to contro situation. Don’t hv to worry if they can snuggle maid girlfrds. Don’t hv to project our imaginations too far. Just go by factual efforts alr announced when Ministers Iswaran, Zarqy et al conducted visit to these dormitories.

There are new regulations to increase social distancing & workers can’t even visit each other btwn blocks or levels. The only thing they need to do now is spread them out so only one worker in an demarcated or shielded (even if by only a heavy plastic curtain) and I’m hoping barracks or Expo will meet the space required to spread them out. Hope by end of today the foreign workers hv more space to spread out at Expo as .zeit indicated they’ve swung to quick action to set up beds.

          ==========================

          But, come every weekend Sunday

are these 20,000 FWs allowed to get out of their dorm

          - run own errand like,

buy ingredients to cook their own food inside the dorm, because is cheaper to self-cook
          or
remit $ overseas back home for their family members, to put food on their table to eat,
          or

          - meet their girl friend for a while eg. maids ?

surely these 20,000 FWs are not imprisoned inside their dorm even on Sunday, until to the extent that they
cannot even go out to buy ingredients to cook food at home or cannot go out to packet food to eat or have their own free personal space time ? These are basic necessities of life

If Yes, then there is a loop-hole already, for maids to meet them, who in turn, can pass virus back to their employer household

What is the maids' off-day, once a week, their freedom day to do their own things ?
          Sunday, right ?

normally see a lot of maids gathered at Lucky Plaza + other places, on Sunday

They’ll hv security & on-site Medical assistance. Today’s news indicated the 14 days may be extended further. Only those who are not infected & are in essential services will be separated & alr moved fr the cluttered dormitories. Those foreign workers in non-essential industries will continue to be paid with govt putting up $100 for each worker to their eyers.

Actually realized govt circuit breaker for office staff one day before sch is good too as parents can help drive kids home esp those who hv to carry books fr lockers home for 1 mth HBL. Saw quite a few students hv to take public tpt home, some carrying photocopy box of books. Probably some thotful teachers gather fr admin office for some of their students.

Can. That is what it is happening now in US, Italy and Spain.

In SG, most probably form an medical ethics committee by MOH to decide who to save if we do not have enough respirators/ventilators.

Now the Dorm clusters are just like Princess Diamond cruise ship, a disaster waiting to happen. All the FWs in isolation will be cramped inside the gazetted dorm and each of them only has an average of 4sqm living space!

Better to quickly disperse the 20,000 of them to Changi Airport terminal 2 for isolation, just spread them out for actual social distancing. BMT just got postponed, right, so use the barracks to hold these FWs lah. How about old schools, SERS flats waiting to be demolished etc. Just let these FWs stay in these different areas to prevent a repeat of the Princess Diamond disaster.

MOH should quickly advise on the best mode of isolation for these FWs so why they soooo quiet?!

I believe the task force working very hard to setup more sites to spread & hold the overcrowded tobthe seams dormitories. Now we can empathize, whilst these foreign workers help build our roads & bldgs, with residences preferring dormitories are not within local communities, they’ve to subject themselves to cramp living conditions. Whilst they’ve accepted it as their lot, in unusual times like this requiring physical distancing, they’ve really nowhere to go. I’m sure our govt will spread them out given next few critical days to contain spread so that these will not infiltrate into our local h’hold.

What we shld reflect is our own local students groups, expat communities do constrain themselves & bear this one month out & not mingle unnecessarily to create even more clusters. Condos shld close gyms (unless machines are innopen doace, erhm) & residents shld not social ard BBQ corners & put in 1m separation for seats/benches, etc. Residents (esp students on laptops) shld be not loiter at void decks or community Centres just to avoid family friction which may encourage others gathering at void decks or CCs.

Hope the Expo site has been quickly setup for use this week. Yes, agree army barracks or blocks due for demolition shld be utilized for addition as quarantine or treatment sites for light cases. Question is do we hv enuf nursing support & security supervision for addition sites.

So far, it seems like the 20,000 FWs will continue to stay put inside the gazetted isolated Dorms. Hope the task force can act on the matter fast!

Don’t think the 400-bed isolation facilities at Expo is meant for the FWs. MOH said in ST that it’s for those who are recovering from Covid-19 or with mild symptoms, will move over from hospitals to free up the hospital beds. 400 beds also not enough for the 20,000 FWs to space them out although I heard the project to convert Halls 3 and 4 just put up for tender. By the time they are ready, I think the 14 days crucial period could be over already. Don’t forget we still have few new Dorm clusters popping up.

It is just an isolation facility so there’s no need for so many nurses there but do need someone like police to guard the FWs.
