      Dear all

For those experienced parents, can you please give me some idea on what to make out of the grades in Sec 1? Are 60s and 70s for subjects like Math and Science something to worry about? What kind of GPA should put our mind at ease and let the kids be?
thank you in advance for your advice.

I think GPA > 3 (or a bit higher, maybe different every year) would allow you to choose any subject combination. Like triple science … Every kid has different favourite or strong subjects, but I think Maths is easier to get A1 and RV Chinese is not easy to score.

Any idea what the average grade for Chinese is typically?

Hi I am taking PSLE this year and don't know which school is better - River Valley High or Crescent Girls' School.

Pros of CGS- Heard that the students there are well-behaved and teachers are strict but dedicated. They have been doing quite well in their O-levels for the past few years. I also prefer girl schools.
Cons pf CGS- Just the distance. It takes about 45min for me to reach there by train and 20min by car. My younger brother is also in Lower Primary, parents are working too, so it is very inconvienient for us. Parents also don't encourge me to go to CGS because of the long distance.

Pros of RV- The distance is about 3 times shorter than CGS.
Cons- Parents not really happy with students' results these few years, a lot of good teachers leaving the school too due to stress and standard has dropped. It is also a CO-ed school but I prefer girls' schools.

Overall, I am looking for a school that has good academic results and behaviour, along with good teachers and a condusive environment. I do not care a lot for CCAs and I hope that someone will be able to help me out. šŸ•ŗ

Hi peachyy, perhaps you'd also like to consider the culture of each school as well. RV has a greater emphasis on Chinese culture and has predominantly Chinese students. Crescent has a greater mix of students in terms of race and does not focus as much as a SAP school does on Chinese culture.

Btw, mind sharing how your parents heard that \"a lot of good teachers [in RV] leaving the school too due to stress and standard has dropped.\"?

In any case, these two schools are located rather far from each other. Why did you narrow your choices down to these 2 schools in particular? There're also other schools that you can consider, depending on your selection criteria.

                All the best!

Showed the videos of RV to my child. Child asked, is RV a Chinese school?

Shld not be. I would thought that sch shld not be too different from the neighbourhood pri sch she is at now. Knowing that there is no Chinese sch in sg now. But is it a Chinese school? Teachers use Chinese mostly?

Not been to RV but we hv visited another sap sch and the kids communicated in English quite well. Why do kids in RV chose it? Proximity and friends?
