      Dear Seleste,

      Thanks for the info.

May i know what is the title of the book and where you got it?

I think i should try it on my son too. He has been responding quite well recently even though he still throw trantrums.

Just yesterday he refused to go to school saying that he is scare of his classmate. When i checked with the teacher, the teacher told me that that classmate is his buddy who helped him in his daily such as bathing, dressing, school work and so on…so i really dont know what went wrong. what i did was just left him there crying and called the school again after 30 minutes and by then he was fine and already playing.

He has been demanding quite a lot of things now…wanting this, crying for that…but not everytime we will give it to him…sometime I also tell him and let him know that it is wrong to do this or do that…i think he understand but refused to acknowledge i think.

The main thing about haircut i think is the sound. autistic kids are very sensitive to sound. When we cut at home using scissor, he is fine with it only keep splashing the water onto the hair that landed on the floor or his body. Other than that i think it is fine so i want to start trying to see if i can bring him to haircut…now come to think of it, those salon i go always got those sound like hair dryers and etc so maybe i should try those 10 mins one which uses only scissors and maybe ask my hubby to be an example.

Thanks a lot for the info. i have been trying to find ways and means to get this done but never seems to find a solution…
once i tried, i post reply again.

          Dear all,

          It's me again.

I was on Pathlight mailing list always and just want to share this link.

          http://autism.org.sg/training/training_details.php?course=110518-MyChildReadyPart1-EIP

There is a training course to be held on 18 May 6 - 9 pm at Pathlight School Ang Mo Kio which will give you an idea if you should send your kid to mainstream school.

Do look out for their other training course as well.

          Thanks.

DS is 5YO (born in 06) , he has difficulties grasping a pencil tightly and doing it the correct way. Another is he is ‘afraid’ of jumping, running down stairs. till nw he is going slowly super slowly n carefully. can anyone advise? is he just afraid or it has something else to do with it?

                Hi Rykiel,

It is difficult to judge like this. Could be just motor skill issues or a psychological hurdle to overcome, you need to observe other aspects such as social awareness, interactions with peers & adults, cognitive abilities, verbal and non verbal communications abilities etc. If there is any amiss felt, consult a paed/psychologist.

I think most PDs who are unfamiliar with special needs, may miss signs of sensory integration disorder.

                    http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processing-disorder-checklist.html

                    http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/fine-motor-development-chart.html
                    4 - 5 YEARS
                    - can draw and copy a cross (one vertical and one horizontal intersecting lines)
                    - folds paper in half, making sure the edges meet
(Many kids with perceptual-motor problems have difficulties with symmetry and bilateral control of hands. Many will have learning difficulties.)

If you find that your child has difficulties in more than 30% of 2 or more subdomains, print out the checklist and complete it. Show it to your PD and have him refer your child to an Occupational Therapist (OT) in hospital.

                        [quote="WaWa"]Hi All

Can I ask what’s the main difference between GDD & Autism

I guess one of the main differences is social intent.

Eg very young kids with speech AND developmental delays (age below 3) play in similar manner. They may like to bang or throw things repeatedly when they are left unattended. A child with GDD will tend to reciprocate when given adult attention (adult-led play). A child with ASD will tend to prefer banging as he enjoys the sensory stimulation from banging.

Both kids are likely to have some form of sensory processing difficulties.

Children with special needs tend to have difficulties adjusting to change, so they may appear "stubborn".

With older kids, it’s a bit easier to tell the differences.
