eh hyperkiasu your child in p1 right? have you let him/her try the matholympiad (junior) book by terry chew? If so how do you or your child find it? That book is an example of the true MO training for lower primary, although it has a tiny bit of IQ maths inside.

It is possible that centres use the term MO training to describe their course which may in fact be iq maths training, so its dependent on the course syllabus and not the name. So maybe some of the mo training your looking for are in fact iq maths training, which is good.

        CoffeeCat:

The issue of improving a kid's IQ is controversial. My view is IQ tests test on basic reasoning skills, and it is possible to train the kids to a certain extent by exposing them to such questions and getting them to think. Rather than seeing it as an improvement of IQ, see it as helping the kids to realise or reach their potential IQ.
        agree :celebrate:

i know one kid P1 who has tried the MO Junior 1 by Terry Chew. some chapters he can solve by himself. (by himself means without hint or help from the chapter examples). some chapters (including IQ math) he need the help from examples. and for others, he needs some more explanation in addition to those examples.

I saw the book in Popular and found it very good. last time i travelled to china and found China's MO for P1 is similar to normal P1 math, not brain-teasing (i had supposed china's math standard should be quite high)....

Did you mean u saw the junior book at popular and think it was good?

I guess china mo trainers have similar view that mo training should start small then slowly include more and more, after all there no difference in how a china p1 and a sg p1’s brains are wired. But by p6 they covered more content I guess.

agree...(even for the normal math, kids are drilled in more depth..)

                  CoffeeCat:

There is a limit to what a kid can learn and understand in the lower primary, and much progress in MO is actually made in the p5-6 years.
I think that is very true based on my child's experience. Lots of difference between P5 and P6

for higher level like P 5/6, the MO books in China are definitely higher than those of NMOS or SMOPS. and good ones could hardly be bought at the normal bookshops in China. I had to buy on internet and then ship them over .... shipping charges is many times the cost of the book itself ...lol

                      Hi verykiasu2010,

though shipping cost is high, still worth it.

can share what is the title of the book, author and publisher? still have the website link?

                      thanks…
