why would you give up a 100% chance in a decent school to try 60% chance at a fancy school (with a risk of going to 2Cs at any leftover schools)?

So I am curious which would you choose?
1) scgs, where you said there is fewer alumni
2) sngs, where you said it’s not super religious like mgs
3) plmgs, where you said it’s a sure in for 2b

If you choose mgs in the end, I guess that could be the reason why people chose/would choose mgs in the end too. And no amount of positive info on other schools would sway these same people to give up mgs. :siam:

But on a side note, it is worthwhile to consider a school with different streams, just in case. My kid’s tuition friend from mgs didnt make it back to express and had to go to another school to do NA.

true, idolizing is one thing but realistically whether can get in or risk a worse off choice is another thing

:slapshead: Poor thing! Thats true... When i was in an average sec, I had a friend from NYPS and he repeated in the sec school for a year due to grades too.

I agree with this. I had some good friends from SNGS Primary who didn’t make the affiliation cut off either.

So...it’s impt to know your own child. Eg my own child is definitely not an academic high scorer (it was pretty obvious since kindergarten). I wouldn’t have thrown him into an academically demanding school, no matter how easy to get in, how popular, how elite, how desperate.

A 100% chance of getting into PLMGS BUT 6 years of waking up at ungodly hours, 6 years of clocking in some ridiculous distances and that’s even assuming you drive! If you don’t drive, say hello to no-school bus (because no demand in your area) and multiple changes of public transport.

That vs 60% chance for MGS and worst case scenario, choosing another school at 2C (p/s: 2C come before 2Cs)? For someone who is living less than 2km to MGS and > 2km to PLMGS, MGS would be a much more attractive option from a logistic POV than PLMGS.

MGS and SCGS have set their cut-off at 220. Furthermore, all 3 schools don’t have normal stream (or G2, G3 in future). As such, it’s not possible that all of their affiliate primary school kids will make it to the secondary section, even if they didn’t do badly.
