MOE have been very silent on the affiliation so far. I wonder if there is even any affiliation. :xedfingers:
seriously,

if MOE going to standardize,
by getting all the affliated Secondary schools' Principal(s) involved or their missionary school management team & their board of directors committee approval, to agree unanimously to give maximum 2 discount points flat across, to all her affliated P6 students in next year AL Psle new roll-out points implemented system, so as to
follow exactly in the same identical manner (foot-steps) as their Secondary schools' discounted admission bonus points into their respective affliated A-level Junior Colleges,

then, doesn't matter anymore, during P1 registration -

whether you've entered / balloted successfully into (MGS or Paya Lebar MGS) primary, or

whether you've entered / balloted successfully into (St Margaret or CHIJ Toa Payoh) primary, or

whether you've entered / balloted successfully into (ACS or St Joseph ) Junior or

whether you've entered / balloted successfully into (Catholic High or Maris Stella High) Junior or

whether you've entered / balloted successfully into (SCGS or St Nick) primary, anymore.

Doesn’t affect me but I seriously think affiliation will stay. And I hope so too.
If they do away with it, they will be subscribing to “grades above everything else”.

Doesn't impact me too but isn't relying on grades a form of meritocracy. Tbh, I like the direction where MOE step in to reserve 20% of placings to non-affiliates.

Relying on grades IS a form of meritocracy. Then dsa?
So my point, there is a balance.
I guess aided schools can choose to do away with affiliation if they would like, but that would be their choice and their decision, and it wont be something that MOE can make them do.
If Moe were to implement this \"2 points flat\" across all affliated primary-Secondary schools relationship, then of course entry by DSA is a far better deal, compared to affliation policy,

because

via DSA, even if a student is several points way below the official AL Cut-off-point, as long as you are strong in something (Sports / Arts / Leadership, etc), you just need to excel in One area, still got chance to enter the Secondary school you want.

Firstly, MOE never speaks of standardisation. Therefore, talk about a standard application is moot.

Secondly, every affiliated pair are unique and different to the next pair. A standard application across these schools is not possible because these schools are driven by different policies and agenda. These schools were set up and continue to function uniquely due to social, political and historical reasons.

Actually, who started this 2 point thing?

Me lah. I anyhowly guessed -2 points. Because MOE standardized -2 points for affiliation to JC.

Just sharing - gonna be a series of popular next couple of years for p1 registration. Look at the spike of birth rates.
Until 2017 and 2018, two of the lowest since 2010.

Should be Phase 1, sibling phase, like St Nicholas.

Hello all, I have a guarantee choice of PLMGS for phase 2A, and I am also a church member. Should I be ambitious and move <1km to MGS and try for MGS 2B1? Same time, I can also participate in PLMGS 2B (if I want to) - I have checked previous years and almost no balloting for 2B applicants regardless of distance. So for illustration, (forget about phase 2A) I could move to Bukit Timah <1Km of MGS and then decide whether I should ballot in MGS 2B1 or apply for a guarantee spot in PLMGS 2B. Does this make sense risking a guarantee spot for a chance in MGS 2B1 ballot? My daughter is born in 2017 (https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/number-of-singapore-births-in-2017-lowest-in-7-years-10523118) which is a historic low birth rate in the past 10 years. The population of Chinese born that year is also at a very low of 1.01 rate (from my observation the school is dominated mainly by Chinese). So do I stand a good chance at 2B1 MGS if I choose not to go for PLMGS? Thanks

Birth rate is overrated.

You will be more screwed if all the low birth rate babies are born in Bt Timah compared to high birth rate babies but born in Punggol.

Well, technically if there are 2000-3000 babies less that year across Singapore, the probability to get into any school in general also changes. 2010 historic lowest tiger birth year - MGS had its own historic 2B balloting for >2km! Thats how Jamie Yeo’s daughter got in while living in Clementi. So it shows birth rate does matter to some extent.
