What is the minimum score required by SOTA for PSLE in recent years? Is it 240?

Once you get a confirmed offer by SOTA, you just need a score of 200

Hi all, my daughter will be sending in her audition for the orchestra track sometime this week. Do any of you know if it’s difficult to get into orchestra for SOTA, and what the entry-level requirements are?

Hi, just wondering, as I haven’t seen the question asked - What happens if your child can’t make it after year 2 or year 3? Since they’ve missed the secondary school admissions, where will they end up if they can’t continue SOTA?

It’s a question that’s been on our minds and as much as we believe in our child’s ability, it’s something we still need to know to make a proper informed decision.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I don’t know if this is the right place to write at but anybody who has joined sota under any course, can u share ur experience? i have read plenty but they are from the early 2000s. I am willing to join sota (I’m primary 6) and I even went through the e-open house and I have a few doubts

-is an IB degree worth more than a O level/A level cert?
-why do many people drop out halfway?
-is it a lot of stress
              and most importantly
-do many jobs in Singapore recognise IB degree?(though I am thinking of going to uni afterwards and doing degree, master degree or phd
thanks, I would appreciate if anyone from sota could reply asap thanks alot~

There are other schools who offer IB in Singapore, eg, ACSI, SJI.

Ask around to see if your family/ teachers/ friends know anyone who studies in IB schools to get their experience.

                ACSI FAQ:-

D1. What is the IP? What is IB? Do local universities recognize IB diploma?

IP stands for Integrated Programme - a six-year through train course. Students spend six years in ACS (Independent) and are not required to sit for the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level Examination except for Mother- Tongue Language. In their fifth and sixth years, they do the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) which is an established pre-university course of study. ACS (Independent)’s IP students will sit for the IB Diploma Examination, not the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level Examination.

As the IB programme is a university-bound course of study, most of our students will apply for a university course of study after obtaining their IB Diploma. The local universities recognise and accept the IB Diploma. University admission will depend on the university and the course applied for. The IB Diploma is a very well-recognised international pre-university qualification and established universities around the world readily give places to IB Diploma graduates.

Hi! My son has just completed the IBD a month ago (though not in SOTA), so I may be able to offer some insight.
                  - I think in Singapore, O levels and A levels may be more recognized simply because it's the most common route students take. However, IB is definitely more internationally recognized (as it is an international program, after all).
                  - I haven't heard of many cases like this, actually. Yes, it is rigorous and stressful. I'm not too familiar with the workload and demands of A levels, but I'm pretty sure the IB has a greater workload. You take 6 classes - 3 at a Higher Level and 3 at a Standard Level. Many times, the Higher Level classes require extra hours (e.g. HL math, chem, bio). Also, as an IBD student, you would have to take a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) class, write an Extended Essay (EE) on a topic of your choice, and complete your Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) hours.
                  - Yes, all unis and jobs recognize an IB degree in Singapore.

Hi, does anyone have an idea on the number of shortlisted applicants for SOTA visual arts this year? I’m referring to shortlisted applicants to the Talent Academy.

                    Thank you!
