Went for briefing on PSLE last night and whew it is will grilling time for my son by school.

Gotten back his CA results, perform below his std cos he dilly dally, knowing the concepts but lazy to apply.

I am now abit confused on how to ‘grill’ him on top of his work, but not to let him lose steam due to too much work.

And to pyscho him that P6 is a milestone not a trip.

still trying to figure out… now abt 7 mths to PSLE…

      any advice?

There is a 2002 character list, which I don't think is relevant today because there was a change in the chinese text books the past few years. So this year's P6 should be using the new text books and so should not be following the old character list.

        Hi lizawa

I think the Chinese syllabus for PSLE 2009 is the same as that of 2008.My son is using the same textbooks passed down from my nieces who took their PSLE exams in 2008.
If I am not wrong, those who are in P5 this year are using the new textbooks.

        Hi
P5 this yr is using the new chinese textbook. There are some changes to the 2010 PSLE EXPRESS Chinese Exam Formats:
        FYI:
        Paper one (20%):
(1)Composition with a title (Remove the subheading)
        (2) Picture Compo (5 pictures with the last box blank & 8 helping words)

        Paper Two (45%)
        (1) Booklet A (Total 23 Questions)
        *Applied language -(10Q)
        (includes pinyi,words,phrases,sentences)
        *cloze passage (6Q)
        *Compre one (A & B Sect) -(7Q MCQ)

        (2) Booklet B (18 Questions)
        * complete the dialogue (5Q)
        *Compre two (A & B Sect) - (13Q open ended)

        Paper 3 (35%)
        *reading passage
        *picture description
*dialogue (based on theme of the picture)

        Listening Compre: 5 passages (10 Q)

Hope all have a clearer picture of 2010 PSLE Express chinese

Mine is RGPS. Should be as you said exam format, plus Sec Sch posting. I heard my girl said one student asked dance teacher to teach dance steps for DSA. I also received letter from Eng teacher on conducting interview (ie helpful for those applying through DSA) and ask to provide CD for recording the interview process.

Is your son in GEP? RGPS GEP is using I-Science. But this yr, mainstream switch to Perfect Match. Seems teacher never use text but ask students to learn from internet. So I did a lot of printing from internet in office.

Last yr, my girl attended group Maths tuition at a centre. I hands off and she failed in SA1. For final yr, I walked her through 4 days out of 6-7 PSLE marking days (incl wkends) identifying the patterns/trends (ie ratio) & rate and that pulled her up.

This yr, I outsource Maths to a home tutor. He was from ACS/ACJC and scored straight As except Chinese. He is accepted into all local uni and is deciding whether local uni or overseas. But I provide the materials by compiling from various sources.

For Science, yesterday she told me after Mar 1 wk hols, teacher wants them to stay back once a week for supplementary lessons covering P3/4/5 syllabus. She is also attending group tuition at a centre. The centre started with Energy first while sch started with Enviornment/Interactions first. So in a way, she finished whole yr’s syllabus. But I have yet to go through with her energy although I am not as good as the male tuition teacher as guys are better in such topics.

Environment/Interactions is more interesting than Energy, for girls. I make learning more interesting by showing her videos (and we went to watch Sea Monsters) and of course, colour printed materials. So far, no drilling yet.

English, the worksheets especially cloze passage, are very difficult. Even I do not know how to do. Vocab & Spelling (for exam is editing), I keep asking her to check dict.

Chinese is her interest. But compre (same for eng) need to use own words, are a challenge.

Does anyone know whether the current list of must-learn 成语 still valid in PSLE 2010? Any good reference book to reccomend for the new oral format?
                        Thanks.
