Hi, I recently checked out the location of MGS and its favorable to my house, then my 1st choice (RGPS) But by 2C, its est 130% oversubscribed based on ELite stats
      Vacancy for Phase 2C\t88\t69\t90
      No. Reg for Phase 2C\t108\t93\t116

Im keen to enrol my girl as there is affiliation, though for 2026 PSLE, the scores are changed. RGPS has no affiliation and MGS affiliation for MGS Sec is beneficial to her. I am unfamiliar with MGS school culture. But as an old girl RGPS, I find RGPS to be highly stressful and competitive, not to mention current distance is a headache.

I am considering trying out 2C MGS, forgoing RGPS. Can anyone throw in any advice for me?
Just stick to Phase 2A1 Rgps

If your girl get balloted out of MGS (Phase 2C), she got to go to Bukit Timah primary under 2C Supplementary, because over there, still got vacancies for 2CS. You want ?
If u don't mind, go ahead and ballot MGS,

      because

during balloting, the actual answer lies in your own luck.

      Otherwise, just stick to Rgps,
when reach the end of P2, seek transfer to MGS. Some ex (former) Rgps students from past batches, also transferred out from Rgps into MGS successfully like that, at the end of P2.

      =========================

      For your info,

Is very easy to transfer out of Rgps, into some other primary schools, as long as your daughter is doing well, inside Rgps

A guaranteed spot in RGPS vs a shot in the dark for MGS. That’s a no-brainer.

There are so many parents with SC daughters \"dying\", covet to snatch a seat into Rgps, by balloting like crazy at Phase 2C, under more than 2 km ! Some even cried emptionally during balloting time full of anxiety, burst out in tears inside Rgps school hall premises a few years back, when the balloting \"ping pong ball\" was being swirled round & round inside a golden cage, until the ball roll out of the cage, because parents failed to get a seat for their daughter

          And here,
she is giving up her previous 2A1 Rgps seat, attempt to fire a blank shot in the dark, at MGS (2C)

Well, many 2C parents outside 2 km eyeing (targeting) Rgps, will clap their hands gleefully, if she wish to withdraw out of Rgps 2A1

          because

          that means, or translated into,
One more extra seat / vacancy for them available, during balloting time

If one removes the GEP cohort within RGPS and just compare apple to apple, the mainstream students (MS) perform more or less the same. In fact, I suspect MGS probably perform better.

The average tscore in MGS Pri and RGPS should be around 23X for both. While an “average student” can continue on with MGS Sec vs one has to go to a 23X neighborhood sec school, herein lies a vast difference. That said, to give up 2A1 for a shot in 2C, needs lots of courage!

This year, is the last batch for MGS primary at Tscore 220.

Next year, whether MGS continue to remain so generous or not anymore, with the equivalent of AL score introduced , yet to be announced (seen), next year (2021)

                for Rgps (Mainstream) alone,

If strip out totally those (1.5 to 2) Gep classes inside Rgps,

the average (mean) Tscore for P6 Mainstream (Non-Gep) Rgps students, is around high end of

                23x

As long as one has a \"fall-back-upon\" school, and don't mind the back-up school, can proceed to ballot at MGS (2C)

MOE has yet to announce the new affiliation discount, probably couldn’t reach an agreement with all the affiliated schools to standardize affiliation points to be given

Today marked the end of first half year 2020 gone, fast !

2021 is only another half a year away, after Term 3 start tomorrow, in the twinkle of an eye

In due time, all affliated Secondary schools will know what is their new AL affliation score, going to be

I agree with this - that both schools are about the same if you compare mainstream with mainstream, and 220 from MG will get you into the sec section while 220 from RG will get you somewhere else. She also stated her reasons for the preference of MGS over RGPS, and for a person coming from the pri school, to reject the school, ok too strong, to prefer another school, or to even start thinking about going to another school, says quite a bit isnt it? So while affiliation score is not yet announced, there will be one eventually right? And MGS sec section, in my opinion, is worth this risk.
