It is not convenient to reveal their options for fear of identifications. They only had LKC offers and no offer from YLL. Medical schools are not the only option to good fulfilling careers. There are many other good opportunities and options for these top students.
Do you know what courses these 2 classmates are going to take overseas ? Which university ? What the exact value of the scholarship ? PSC ? Who is the scholarship provider ? And why they don't want medicine ? Or don't want LKC ?peterfamily\" post_id=\"1978989\" time=\"1591012256\" user_id=\"184656:
LKC intake is 150 this year. My son said 2 of his classmates are opting for scholarships at other courses overseas and have released LCK offers. So there will be slots available. Stay hopeful.
Good luck to all students waiting for their replies.
-
Did anyone hear back from NTU waitlist?

Hi! Monsta,
Did anyone hear back from NTU waitlist?
Let us wait in support of our children transformation to the next phase of life. Let's relax a little and think about the good things our children have accomplished thus far. We are all proud parents of our children regardless of the outcome.
What's your children second or alternative choice of chosen course of study? My have son has chosen Biological Sciences & Biz. This course is dealing with biological and biomedical science research and provide an exciting pathways for him in keeping abreast of the latest medical development around the world. Not being in MBBS does not mean no other workaround. If there's a will there is a way.
My son has just served NS as Commando in the medic vocation. He has acquired the knowledge and skills in the aspect of treating and applying first aid to injured soldiers during peace and war time. Unfortunately his medic portfolio was not submitted during the admission application being that the medic vocation was not make known till he completed his Commando BMT. The skill set and knowledge these soldiers had been trained is helpful in the course of MBBS study if given the opportunity else a prospective candidate has been missed out in the selection processes.
Well, I am not begrudging here but sharing some views in life. We can see that Life isn't always fair, but that's irrelevant. All that matters is that you figure out where you want to be, hold your head high, and keep moving forward.
Don't worry, be happy everyone here! -

Well said. Medicine is not the only route to a fulfilling career. Which is why those 2 top students that we know gave up medicine. They see beyond the narrow path of YLL, LKC....Monsta\" post_id=\"1979107\" time=\"1591091097\" user_id=\"184693:Hi! Monsta,

Absolutely. I read with disgust about parents fretting over covid19 and their precious kids wanting to go med school. Ridiculous. Doesn’t even know what is a medical calling.
-
My personal thinking is all roads lead to Rome. But it is easy to say, difficult to achieve top destination. So parents prefer to recommend a safe and confirmed success road to own kids. Even though doctor is not a top success job in the market. But it is the best course in the school. It commands the most respect。The most important is doctor can directly benefit to mans

I have 2 lovely children. My ds who is completing year 1 in ntu medicine and my dd is offered both nus medicine and smu law this year. My ds turned down one of the most prestigious overseas government scholarship because they did not allow him to pursue medicine overseas. He has outstanding leadership in sports as well as chairman of school counsel, represented singapore in many international competitions. His bmat was 8.2, 7.4, 4.5A. A very outstanding score. He did a diploma in one of the specialised maths and science school, no GCE A level. He did not get an offer from nus medicine, much to our surprise.
My dd did the GCE A level at one of the lower tier junior college. She struggled in JC1 and suffered many meltdowns on the run up to GCE A level. Surprisingly, she did well for GCE A Level with only 2 Bs. Her brother encouraged her to try her attempt at nus medicine and to our surprise she was allocated an offer.
She has always have a flair for selling and is a very powerful negotiator. She dislikes deep analysis and has a very happy go lucky personality. She always thought a career in business and marketing would be most suitable for herself. She isn’t a very patient person unlike her brother. In fact, I find her to be rather quick tempered.
She has accepted nus medicine on the advise of her brother after listening to how fulfilling he finds his course at ntu is. How my worry is, will she be able to cope with the course since she already suffered several meltdowns at junior college? Is she really suitable to be a doctor. Soon, we will have to sign the service agreement, and we are worried.
Another point I find strange is, my son, whom we thought would be offered by nus medicine, isn’t. My son said he realised ntu medicine has many top students from the elite junior colleges with all the straight As and high Bmat. While his high school classmates at nus medicine noticed many of his classmates are from a good mix of neighbourhood junior colleges without straight As, polytechnics, ITEs.
Is there an agreement between the 2 medical schools that ntu medicine will take the straight As students (since high BMAT is a requirement from imperial college) while nus medicine has a more diversity cohort, to fulfill moe new policy to embrace diversity? -
Over 80% those offered both medicine schools still choose YLL.These are all straight As students.Heard the story.

Congrats! No worry, nowsaday kids are book smart and streetsmart. Once they have their mind settled, they will definitely do well.
NUS YLLSoM and NTU LKCSoM both have their sets of formula and algorithm that they base upon in the selection process. Nobody knows how it is being worked out. This year many top JCs students were shock and stun over the results, especially by NUS Medicine.
Well, Agree or not, we have to respect the decisions of judges.
