      :boogie:
QUESTION: Both 2B and 2C will provide at least 20 seats EACH category right, according to MOE... but if more spaces leftover after 2A, they will equally divide the slots between 2B and 2C.

So am I correct by saying - if I live within 1Km and am qualified 2B1 church member... The only way I ever happen to unluckily get into a ballot (with the least slots of 20 seats each 2B & 2C), is if there are more than 40 <1km registered kids that year, am I right? Mathematically.... Yes??

And say if theres a good year of 35 slots each for 2B and 2C, and since <1km gets in first for each category, there would need to be more than 70 <1km registered kids for me to even enter ballot, is this correct?

      :thankyou:
      Not exactly.

Each phase (2B and 2C) is conducted separately. Phase 2B comes first. So assuming there’s the bare minimum of 20 seats in 2B for that school, if 21 people <1km register under 2B, then there’ll be balloting.

And say there are 35 slots each for 2B and 2C, there would just need to be 36 kids <1km for you to enter a balloting situation.

The upside is if you qualify for 2B <1km, and don’t get picked in the 2B ballot, you can get a 2nd bite of the balloting cherry, in phase 2C. With worse odds of course, since the “public” 2C living <1km are bound to be more massive in numbers.

TELL ME ABOUT IT! We genuinely bought a place opp SCGS and got balloted out last year! Now my girl goes to CHIJ Katong... how far is it you know? The traveling daily... I was super devastated last year when we did not get in SCGS... Cried for days! Now we are hoping to sell the place after the ABSD is up... but property market is so bad... SIGHHH...

Everyday when I take the SBS bus to fetch my girl and pass by the school... imagine the pain... and by the time my girl reaches home... usually have her lunch almost 3pm. Only good thing is there is a straight bus to and fro to school...

WHY DIDN'T MOE SET THIS RULE LAST YEAR???

        josiren13:

And how about those who bought new homes for this purpose and yet they are deprived of the possible phase 2B ?
We are talking about parents who fork out $$ to buy homes near these schools.. and not even rental. How fair is that!

OH MY!!!! :scared: :scared: I just came across this post and feel so sorry for you! I saw the stats and always thought <1km has a high chance of balloting! Guess its a high birth rate year, so sorry to hear that!!

Why can't they have many Nanyang Primary School branches. Those not popular school, just change to Nanyang Primary (North, South East, West branch), sure huat.

Do you'll think that the covid situation and job uncertainties put a dampener on buying and renting houses for school purposes?

personally, was finding it challenging to commit to a place without seeing it. Also, my wife's business was quite badly affected, so really thinking twice :scared:

This un-expected, sudden, abrupt covid-19 has turned our life upside down, into a frightening nightmare. Missed so much those good, old pre-covid days, before 2020 Chinese New Year day, before 20 February started, before \"Wuhan virus\" started.

Due to covid-19, global un employment shot up fast, world-wide recession. Think twice, before commit financially, to buying houses in popular primary schools district, unless you are \"cash-rich\", happen to have a lot of spare cash on hand

I graduated in 2006, so it was not bad. MY juniors who graduated in 2007/2008 GFC time, had a really hard time getting into good companies due to retrenchments and hiring freeze. Hope this time it's not as bad. Feel sorry for those graduating :nailbite:

Last time, before covid broke out, cannot fathom how one can work from home (WTH).

                    now, under the \"new norm\",
employers are told : let your employees, work from home.
If employees are caught going to office, employers can be fined.

Same. Check here to confirm the distance category ( <1km, < 2km):
