2020 P1 Registration Exercise for 2021 In-take

Many CHS boys ended up at MSHS during the time when MSHS COP was still low 230. Others ended up at St. Gabriel’s, 220+ school. It is probably not so common to have below 220 from CHS since it is a GEP centre and well known for its high academic standard.

CHS’s and NYPS>NYGH’s affiliation scores are so high, its almost like no affiliation!

And I noticed PLMGS has a -44 discount between affiliated and non affiliated, seems like a very good choice of safety net. 250 for non affiliates, wow! However i’ve never really paid attention to them, seems like a dark horse and underrated. Never heard people mention them enough.

I stay in Hillview area with my SC eldest boy born in 2014 that going to take part in the P1 registration exercise this year . Only eligible for Phase 2C this year.

The following are the schools nearby to my current place :

Within 1KM:
CHIJ Lady Queen of Peace ( not applicable as mine is a boy )

1-2 KM:
BUkit Panjang PS
BUkit View
Dazhong
Keming
Lian Hua PS
St Anthony PS

Looking at the 1-2 km list , no chance for Keming . May consider St Anthony but not sure the risk. Not familiar with the rest of schools in this list. Appreciate any master can give some advice.

Another thought is to move near Bukit Timah , and bid for Pei Hwa Primary ( most prefer ) and have BTPS as back up in 2CS if failed. Any advise whether this worth the trying ?

Keming - likely balloting within 1km - seem to be around 2 applicants to 1 spot

St anthony - it ranges from 1-2km ballot (2019,2017,2016) and within 1km ballot (2018). I tend to think 2018 numbers seems more likely for this year. around 86-87 applicants for 2018 and 2019 for st anthony. worst odds since 2010 to 2019 is 1.4 applicants to 1 spot within 1km. Odds for 1-2km folks, whenever there is 1-2km balloting, is harder to detect unless you have absolute breakdown.

Pei hwa odds was around 2.2 applicants to 1 spot for 2018 and 2019. There was a cut in the intake last year so competition for spot is as fierce as 2018. Sometimes it has some surprise results like 2016 - 1-2km ballot and 2015 - more than 2km ballot. I am not sure if \"moving close but knowing you will be in for likely balloting\" is something within your risk profile.

BTPS as backup works either way - moving or not moving. with the limit of PRs in the school implemented this year, more spots could be for SCs.

Moving or not moving will depend on how you rank the sch and will your risk profile change to your preference in schools. When moving is in your mind, there are so many schs to choose actually, but more choices to choose means bad for your mental health.

Counter POV - stay put, try for St Anthony. Most likely ballot at 1-2km. But at least probably better odds and less stress than PHPS and still get the co ed experiences. U still get a chance to affiliate to SJI or St Pat rather than move to secure SJIJ. Save money for all the enrichment with probably the same outcome in the end.

My son was from MSHS Primary (PSLE 2016). Back then to get into their secondary under affiliation was 226. I was very stressed over he must get at least 226 to get in to MSHS. Cos if he got below 226, there are very limited number of schools for him to go to under Express. Also MSHS is an all express stream school so if he got into NA, he could not go to MSHS. In the end, it was fortunate he scored over 240 and remained in MSHS.


In 2018, my daughter did her PSLE. For CHIJ Katong, their secondary section offers Express, NA and NT. But primary school girls who wanted to go under affiliation for Express have to score minimum 200, else they have to go other schools for Express or join KC’s NA stream. My daughter got over 190 but less than 200. She bursted into tears the moment she saw the marks. She had hope to get 200 and stayed in KC Express. In the end she chose to join the NA stream so that she could have a wider selection of schools and since her score was in the high 19+, she entered CHIJ Toa Payoh under non-affiliation.

Thanks. She was very upset in the beginning when she learnt that she couldn’t enter CHIJ Katong Express, even though she qualified for Express/NA. Some schools took in their affiliated students into their Express stream at 188 or 189 but IJ Katong took in at 200. She loves IJ Toa Payoh and she has many friends. She is happy now.

because some students who scored 250 & above, may not choose IP program, prefer to stick back to the traditional O-level curriculum instead.

Not all students who scored 250 & above, keen to quickly jump into the \"IP\" band wagon, because IP may not suit these students. They know what they are good at, or not good at.

Do these students, qualify for SCGS IP ?
Yes, they do,
because their 253 exceeded 252 (IP) SCGS Cut off point admission.

Then, why they didn't opt for IP ?

Possible reasons

1) they don't like IP, prefer O-level curriculum, because O-level track suits them better,

or

2) they prefer to choose their own A-level Junior College after finished their O-level, instead.
