Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

Hello all!


Looking for some help from the experts here…

My family is looking at properties around Potong Pasir/Bartley area since it is near to our workplaces. I have 2 boys so I’m looking at either Maris Stella or SAJS (can move within 1km). We can only apply in phase 2C as SAJS is not taking in PV for 2022’s intake due to COVID-19 and MS does not have PV prog at all. My first boy is enrolling next year (SG50). Seems like both schools have a recent trend of balloting <1km. Based on the stats, which one will we have a better chance in? I understand that Bidadari residents can start applying using their address and it seems like the effect hasn’t kicked in yet based on Cedar’s stats…

So far both schools only ballot about once in <1km, so chance are still pretty good. Bidadari not so mature yet for 2021, probably still fine.

I don’t see what you have to lose, since your 2CS school will always have plenty of vacancies left for you.


The only problem may be if your son doesn’t speak Chinese at home. It may be tough to catch up with the Chinese standard.

TBH what other choice do you have? (Most likely, none).

Unless you are one of the fortunate ones who lived within 1km to KCPPS, you don’t have an alternative. KCPPS ballot between 1km to 2km so you would be screwed if you aren’t under 1km. You probably won’t get a chance at the rest of the popular / semi-popular schools in Toa Payoh or AMK; the less popular schools, including GYPS in Bishan, would have plenty of places for Phase 2CS. Thus, no urgency to consider them for Phase 2C.

Do some comparisons from the comfort of your couch. School culture could be quite different. Based on hearsay, St Gabriel’s is indeed less stressful.
