If you haven't got a place under another earlier phase and this is your only phase 2B school and you are not applying to any other phase 2B school, you have to put in an application. Whether you put in your application or not you have to put in an application somewhere for 2C unless you succeed in phase 2B

dear gurus, do you think there is a chance for me to try phase 2b (within 1km to 2km) for nan chiau? Bal for phase 2b after phase 2(A) = (104/2) + 20 = 72… my backup plan will be springdale for phase 2c… somehow the number looks optimistic but i may be blinded/false illusion as the competition will come in phase 2b…

I suspect MOE may tweak the Phase 2A / 40 reserved places further after this year. I think a lot of schools (including my kid’s) have > 80% of students being offsprings of alumni :yikes: probably not too healthy -
Nong nong time ago at my kid’s school, it used to be ~100% offspring of alumni (and church members).
Now with the minimum 20 reserved seats for 2C, we the public are but the token minority.
But I don’t think there’s anyone pushing for an increase. Why would MOE change it when they have bigger fish to fry? -

You will most likely have to ballot. And if that’s the case, so be it. It’s not like you have other (better) schools to utilize your Phase 2B option.

based on historical, current TUR at 52% indeed quite low. should have chance for 1-2km ballot. but online app can only pray, once submit can't do much. unless you have better 2b plans, else just go for it.

No leh. I don’t think ACPS or ACJS ever reaches 100% for alumni + church members. It came close for sure, but there’s always some seats (worst was ~17 but often ~30) left for 2C.

In the past, only a handful of schools were affected (ACPS, SNGS, CHS). Now, it’s nearly 20. That number would be abating in the next few years. -
Ok I stand corrected. Went to double check the charts. The older school ACSP’s TUR at end of 2B went as high as 95% one year, 2006 (before the reserved seats rule). So ~100% is an exaggeration.
We still feel like minority though. -

: I took a rough look at the vacancies available and looking at the 2019 applicants, about 11 schools seem to be balloting for 2B within 1km, ACSJ, St Hilda, St Nicks, CHS, Tao Nan, ACSP, ATS, NYP, Rosyth, Pei Chun & Nan Hua.
