PR should apply straight to New Town Primary, that’s the only safe choice for you this year. Even Queenstown may not have chance for you. -

Even Queenstown may not have chance for you.[/quote]If willing to travel a little more, since already travelling to BTPS, New Town or Queenstown, take a look at the daily numbers for CHIJ (Kellock), St. Margaret's and Marymount Convent, you might be surprise to find a place in 2C for PR if lucky -

Called the school. The school is not sharing the distance breakdown for 2C. That'll make it difficult to make an informed decision on whether to apply for RGPS. If there's no chance at all or poor balloting odds, at least the parents can apply elsewhere instead for 2C. Unlike in previous years, when parents can visit the school to see the distance breakdown for themselves.

All SC more than 2 km, be proactive, don't expect the school to call u up to withdraw

In that last critical hour, last day of Phase 2C (3.30 pm to 4.30 pm closing time), anything can happen. You won't know, if there are a lot of applicants apply online within 1 km, or within 1 to 2 km, their distance range earlier before you. Also, during this last critical hour, it is impossible to expect Rgps admin to call you all up one by one, because they are very busy handling last minute registration. Thus, please be on your toes, stay alert during that last one hour action (3.30 pm to 4.30 pm), last day of 2C

Because
if you call around that last adrenalin-rushing panic hour, last day 2C (3.45 pm to 4.30 pm), worried that
the school phone line may be engaged, cannot get through, because so many other parents are also dialling in, too

If don’t give parents the detailed break down by distance, that, we can still accept.
But by the last day 2C, around 3.30 pm, Rgps should know , which distance range need to ballot :
- is it SC balloting, inside (1 to 2 km)
Or
- is it SC balloting, outside 2 km ?
This type of basic, fundamental registration info, parents have the right to know. I feel for the parents whose daughters are SC staying > 2 km,
Because
Nobody want to be left out of 2C registration. If parents (with SC daughters > 2 km) realize that they dont even have any chance to ballot, parents will automatically withdraw and run to another school to register, in the nick of time !
But not left in the lurch, not knowing whether still got chance to ballot, or not.
Yes, we understand that MOE do not wish to disclose numbers by distance breakdown. Fair enough, we can accept
But Not to the extent whereby one big cluster of SC exceed 2 km are kept in the dark, not knowing whether can or cannot even ballot

How would you feel, caught in a fix, not knowing if given the chance to ballot or not ? -
It seems that the entire P1 registration, is very secretive (hush-hush) now
Last time, only a few years ago
1) balloting process was clearly visible, totally transparent.
All parents could see (like toto), seated below the stage, whose ping pong ball rolled out of the fast, golden spinning cage, after rotation by an Officer stood on the stage, manually spinned the golden cage.
In contrast now, how the balloting was done at Moe (HQ), nobody can witness
2) no more numbers break down, by distance range
(less than 1 km, between 1 to 2 km, greater than 2 km)
Last time, every one hour or so interval, Officer consistently walked out of the school hall, updated the numbers clearly on a white board by distance-range. White board was placed outside entrance of Rgps school hall on level 2, for all parents to see the detailed break down numbers.
I really missed those good old days, with clear, visible transparency

Population dynamics. Queenstown has more units of newer HDB there, plenty of kids living there. Whereas New Town (Commonwealth/Tanglin Halt area) has only 3-6 blocks of newer flats, majority of these were bought by old folks whose old flats had been enbloc by govt. Not many kids living there. However there are several blocks of rental flats near the school, the unstable income families with large brood of kids, usually send their kids to New Town out of convenience.

There are increasing numbers of PRs of PRC background studying in NTPS. Work hard just like them, your girl can also top the class. Parents need to give more supervision make sure kid don’t fall into wrong company. With good grades, maybe can transfer to better school in future.
(I used to live next door to NTPS. My neighbor chose to send their daughters there, they are hardworking and doing well. It’s up to you whether u want your kid to be big fish in small pond, or small fish in big pond. Parental guidance in studies is also important.) -

A lot of new hdb and condo near Queenstown mrt that's why. New town is not a bad school. There are a number of improvements after the new principal took over last year. She's from Anderson primary school and previously vice principal of Temasek Secondary. It's a good and safe backup plan.
