I’m going to take a contrarian view. This lack of transparency is a wonderful thing. If MOE truly believes in “every school, a good school”, they should further enhance the system and restrict school admin to only top line view (availability / no. of applicants).

Quite a number of schools are balloting within 1km this year, including many surprises. I think this is partly due to Covid, but mostly due to lack of transparency since everyone can’t drill down. The overall outcome seems to be a flight to safety. If MOE desires parents to pick schools near their place and not so picky in some of their choices, they may have found the solution 😂
It may also be due to the high level of births in 2014. Lack of information doesn't mean they can't inform parents who aren't in the ballot and will waste their chance because of distance or nationality to apply elsewhere before applications close.

if one do enough studies and research, he/she will be able to put in the application based on his/her risk profile. It is not as transparent as one want it to be, yet the information/trends were there for all to see, if they are open to it.

Not sure how the online system works but I read somewhere that some parents actually submitted their application twice. So, it might be difficult for schools to advise on the distance or nationality that required balloting, at a certain point in time, before the registration phase ended. MOE needed that amount of time to ensure there wasn't any duplicate application.

Also, if the school were to tell you balloting was for a certain distance but the outcome was different after the above verification process, would parents blame the staff for misinformation? So, either way, schools would be damned.

If unsuccessful in phase 2CS, MOE will post your child to the nearest school in your area?

Yes. Definitely will have one. Previously they would give you a form to indicate your 3 preferences in order.

But now in recent years I think they just skip this step. Allocate you to the nearest one. If u prefer a further one then just go school and request transfer.

If your child is unsuccessful in Phase 2C Supplementary, they will be posted to a school with available vacancy. You will be informed of the outcome on the results announcement day through SMS.

                  All the best!

Hi, if under 2C vacancies left 100, the total applicants 120 and its stated need to ballot for SC within 1km, does that means 120 applicants are within 1km? Or it might not be 120? Even 101 applicants also need to ballot right? If thats the case, will school reveal the exact numbers of applicants within 1km that need to ballot?

                    No

Doesnt mean that all 120 applicants are SC less than 1 km, because

                    this year lacked info transparency,

hence, amongst these 120 applicants, there could be K2 children staying between 1 to 2 km, or more than 2 km trapped inside, their parents do not realize that balloting actually took place within 1 km.

                    ====================

Your question, if there are 100 vacancies, assuming that balloting occurred within 1 km for SC, and there are 101 applicants, that depend.

                    1) if the 101th applicant is also an SC less than 1 km, then Yes, enter into balloting. One unlucky kid will be balloted out.

                    But

                    2) if the 101th applicant is a PR, then No balloting is required, because

all the 100 SC staying less than 1 km, match the 100 vacancies perfectly, hence do not need to ballot. All the 100 SC got enrolled into the school, successfully. The PR, is out

                    Very clear 👏👏

Not to mention, supposed school A ask parents > 1km away to try another school because it’s balloting. Said parents went to school B causing it to overflow, resulting in another set of parents to head to school C which again overflows etc.

Wasting a balloting chance is a BS argument. If parents want to stick their head out for a long shot, go ahead. Don’t expect goodwill from school and hoping for someone to keep tabs.

If school require balloting among Singapore Citizen children with distance over 2km from school.

It that mean that PR children with distance within 1km , no chance at all to admit to the school already ?
