Got ballot out from NC <1km.
Our block is just 1 min walk away 😞
      SD is full now.
Anchor Green Primary also need for ballot for phase 2Csnow.
      SO stressful.
Is just SO hard to get a “nearby” walking distance school 😞
NC is popular. Staying nearby doesn’t seem to be the advantage since there are so little slots but Super high demand.

Not to mention, 200 odd people have the same claim to “nearby” and “within walking distance”.

          1. Too soon to tell, less than half applied for this area.
          2. Palm view has lower take up as some other schools are MK. Palm view intake is usually 240 except for 2018 which was increased to 270 and this year 280. So the take up this year is more than last year at the same point.

Fernvale will be full first then followed by palm view.

Riding on again, I read this article https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/2020-p1-registration-for-2021-intake-balloting-probability/ and wondering if the probability for Palm View would still be accurate (that there is a probability Palm View will be balloting for >2km) cos it seems that there is 153 child balloted out of Nan Chiau and Palm View is within 1km?

Nan Chiau only about a third of <1km overlaps with Palm view <1km. The bulk probably is 1-2km of Palm View.[/quote]I briefly looked at the map.

Given the number excess from NC, and Springdale, its like a foregone conclusion that anchor green and palm view will be over subscribed and most likely ballot within 1km.

Seng Kang Green is closest to Fern vale and also quite close to fern green. so fern vale is likely to have not enough

One more point is that for this area, i noted for the past 2 years, applicants in 2Cs were more than the excess from 2C. It meant that you have to absorb some excess from neighbouring area like Punggol primary to North vista or Mee toh to North spring etc.

The area is just too dense.

It is very densely populated, but there are also more than sufficient new schools in the NE area to accept all the residents.

Honestly, there is also lack of transparency in the MOE website.

It might be seen 200+ Parents eyeing for the same school but it didn’t give us parents the breakdown on how many
SC within 1km applied, how many >1km applied.

Fair enuff, If there is really >200 SC applicants stay within 1km and all compete for this sch I’m sure many parents would have withdraw. The problem is there are people who stayed in Buangkok/ Fernvale all also apply NC even they are staying >1km-2km away.

The other major concern about the transparency of the computerized balloting system.
In this IT savvy era, MOE can actually arrange Zoom/ Webex/ Skype to show how the ballot was conducted but none was done.

In the end, is it just frustrating when government keep telling you to choose nearby school but all nearby ones are fully occupied based on Alumni/ Clan/ Affiliation etc.

For NCPS, you can be sure it’s 99.9% within 1km. Has been the case of more than 100 applicants within 1km for the last x years.

This won’t be a fair complaint for Sengkang though.

There are only three extremely popular schools in Sengkang - SK Green, NCPS, Rivervale (Compassvale and Springdale are also notable). Their <1km catchment generally do not overlap. Besides NCPS, none have significant number of alumni or PV to speak off. MK may have a significant impact this year but given that majority of the students live within 1km of the kindergarten, it’s considered their nearby school and they are simply jumping ahead of phases (much like PV attempts to).

Frankly, there are more than enough schools in SK to cater to the number of potential students.

OT : Just out of curiosity, why SK Green and Rivervale are so popular?

Because there aren’t that many choices in Fernvale and Rivervale?

So applications number are out excluding those online form. We will be using online form so have until tomorrow. Our options are:

Anchor green < 1 km - 39 vacancies 79 applicants. Very sure need to ballot
Palm view 1-2km - 62 vacancies 56 applicants. Anyone keep track from the previous phases proportion of pple using online form so we can gauge the balloting risk for palm view?

Previous years no online form, last day is walk-in. Palm View only 2018 fully taken up by 2C, other years at most 2CS ballot >2km. I think 1-2km should have good chance this year.
