        Hi P5 parents,

During this circuit breaker period, there are plenty of tuition centres holding online webinars for parents & kids about PSLE prep, useful exam tips for each of the 4 subjects, analysis of commonly-asked questions, trends over the past few years etc.

The vast majority of them are free. Some charge a nominal fee. I have benefitted a lot from attending these webinars. Just letting you guys know in case you have been missing out. If you are following various tuition centres on Facebook or subscribed to their email lists, you would have seen the events listed.

A kind P6 mum sent me a link. Otherwise I wouldn’t have opened my eyes to such beneficial “learn from home” sessions either. Now I’m hooked and understand what the PSLE markers look out for. I can guide my kid much better with this knowledge.[/quote]
        Hi Zac's mum,

That's very kind of you to share this. It is an eye-opener for social-media insulators like me.

Any chance of shining some light on what the PSLE markers lookout for?

        Many thanks in advance.

What the PSLE markers are looking out for…is different for each subject, each component…it’s too much for me to elaborate here. The best people to learn from are the experts with experience (aka those tuition centre tutors, some of them are ex-markers or ex-MOE teachers).

Basically, the general trend now is the testing of application of concepts (for Math & Science), rather than mere memorization of facts or particular methods.

Science - exam techniques, keywords, answering style, are important if u want child to score well.

Math - exam techniques, logical thought process & presentation of answers are important if u want child to score well.

Chinese - need to know the P4-6 textbooks absolutely thoroughly. Exam techniques are important, so is content and flow of words for Compo, Oral.

English - Exam techniques also important especially for compre. S&T are easy marks to collect but be careful either 0 or 2 marks, nothing in between.

That’s a quick summary of what I’ve learnt so far.

Hi parents, so nice to see a group chat for the 2021 PSLE. Last lapse of P5 journey before our child step into the important PSLE year. I’m already thinking how to prepare her since she’s only an average student. Looking forward to more sharing and guidance here.

                  Morning zac's mum,

Many thanks for the summary. It's a very good guideline for planning the PSLE revision.

                  Very appreciated!

It's quite interesting to know that the presentation of the answers is considered in Math. I guess this is in the case where the final answers are incorrect?

All the very best for your kiddy's revision. 😄

Hi no worries. I’m just sharing what I have learnt.

For Math presentation of answers, what I meant is, for the child to get all the marks, he needs to present it in the accepted format.

Horizontal working (Eg. 10U = 50, 1U = 50/10 = 5) gets the method marks. Rough working at the right side of the page is completely ignored by the markers (Unless the kid scored very badly and they are looking to give some pity marks in those rare cases.)

If I’m not wrong, the final English statement also gets 1 mark.

And missing units in the final answer gets minus 1 mark.

                        current 2020 ( P5 students and parents ),

do you prefer your primary school to standardize the teaching of primary school Science topics across the board, instead of currently now, every primary school teaching their own different sequence of Science topics ?
