MOE can easily find out from HDB, electricity & water companies, internet & cable TV companies, whether an address is truly vacant or somebody is having high electricity & internet consumption from that home. Moreover there are CCTVs in void decks and lifts. Can match your child’s face whether they take lift home to the vacant address every day.

So if both me and my hubby change our address to my parents' address, that will be okay?
So its ok to leave our HDB flat vacant without any registered address under the unit for 30months?
Btw, how would MOE find out if anyone is not staying in the address for 30months?
In previous incidents, MOE officers visited the place of residence.
Possible consequences: jail, fine and the students themselves may be taken out of the school that they gained entry to based on a false declaration.

Basically, a child who gains priority admission into a school through his/her distance category is required to reside at the address used for registration for at least 30 months from the commencement of the annual P1 Registration Exercise

          easy to find out

If a P1 pupil is suspected, either the class Form Teacher or VP can ask the student directly, \"After school dismissed, where do you go ? Where is this place ?....\"

MOE officials can also do a spot check, visit the house which have used for P1 registration ....

            Zac’s Mun,

I like the way you detail & spell out almost every way a smart economy can do tracing.

For me, simply when one cannot be reached for impt action for sch Orientation or other, then its easily found & MOE personal visit only to verify their suspicion.

There are so many ways to be found out, not limiting to the Big Brother. I rmbr one year, someone was found out when the family was not staying the the addresses used for P1 affiliation letter fr a church & a sharp eyed member with child in same P1 level noticed the family nvr attend church after entry into P1. This child was thereafter put in ano sch near where parents’ original address was & parents had to face the music.

we struggle so hard and pay exorbitant amounts to buy property nearby to get into good schools just to be played out by these dishonest folks
i hope to see more jail terms and serious consequences for such actions

The next one will get jail for sure. Many people already angry that the mere fine was too light.
