Problem is this kind of offense is difficult to detect, prove and prosecute.
for the ONE that got caught, imagine the number that did not and got away scot free?F3parent\" post_id=\"1992455\" time=\"1598261366\" user_id=\"165232:
The next one will get jail for sure. Many people already angry that the mere fine was too light.
Even when convicted, DPP also didn't object when they appealed.
When the punishment of the offense is relatively light and reaps a decent reward, people will continue to risk it.
In this case, I do feel that transferring the child out would be the least they could do (and they did).
if they didn't everyone will think it's a cheap 5K cost to get your child into his school of choice and treat it as donation fee
they should increase the penalties to jail (even 1 day can) -

Anyway I think it's not difficult to discover if your child has a classmate doing that. Surely many parents are eager to bao toh -

Hi,
We just move in to the new premises. Besides being required to stay in the area for 30months from registration. are there any occupancy period prior to registration? -
Nope.

Hi
We plan to rent a place within 1km of the desired school next year b4 the registration, can we just rent a unit first without moving in first? If ballot successful will move in if unsucessful then break lease and continue stay at current place. Wonder is this workable? Another general question, what if the owner sell off the rented apartment within a few months and we are asked to leave, we r still safe if we shift to another place within 1km right? Assuming balloted in. Appreciate some pointers on it. Thanks -
- you have to move in & actually live there, otherwise you would be making a false declaration to the police officer when changing your IC address at the police post. The penalties like fine and jail would apply. Kid will be fired from the school.
- you have to make sure that your Tenancy Agreement (TA) covers till the end of the entire 30 month obligation. However, if landlord terminates the lease while giving the agree notice according to the TA, then MOE will consider it an acceptable scenario & you have to move to another place also <1km in order to fulfill the remainder of the 30 month obligation. -
