      Hi,

Does anyone know when attempting English Paper 1 (Situational Writing and Composition) during PSLE, do our kids have to leave a line empty (for spacing), in between their sentences? Is there a usual practice or is it up to the kids?

        Hi,

Below is from Red Swastika Prelim English Paper 1. Can someone give hints on Q 17 (Answer 3), Q 19 (Answer 2)? Thanks a lot.

You mean the Answer to Q17 is (3) and to Q19 is (2)? :scared:
We don't say \"pertinent\" in diet.
And the \"citizens\" enjoyed chilli in their food is just weird.

          I'd choose \"significant\" for Q17 and \"natives\" for Q19
          My 2 cents.

            Hi D3@n,

Thanks for taking your precious time replying my message. Yeah I also think the answers given at the end of this purchased paper for these two questions are wrong. Thanks.

My child is in p5 this yr. Would like to know, what more would sch P6 curriculum be teaching kids in compo writing? Would like to know if child will get to improve further next yr, if child is getting above 30 and comfortably writing 6 pages in exam time limit.

Is there alternative to fixed approach to English compo writing by tuition centre? Individual compo marking and feedback on how to enhance quality of writing? Any mummy can recommend?

If child uses too many direct speech, should we try to change her?

Direct Speech should be used sparingly. The child is ultimately writing a composition and not recounting a conversation. And if a child is too dependent on direct speech, he/she will very likely face a problem writing essays at the secondary and tertiary levels. Narratives essays will be almost non-existent then, and the child will have no direct speech to fall back on for his/her writing.

If your child is always scoring above 34 already, then it means your child is already doing what exam requires for high marks. Not to say cannot improve further but it will be a lot harder. Hard to comment what needs to be done to improve scores without seeing your child's writing. If child is scoring above 30 but below 34, then definitely still room for improvement. One most likely area of improvement is the use of figurative language.

                        My two cents.
