On the other hand, there is another group of parents [and students] that prefer co-ed Secondary schools, instead of "All-Girls" schools …

Hi I am taking PSLE this year and don't know which school is better - River Valley High or Crescent Girls' School.
Pros of CGS- Heard that the students there are well-behaved and teachers are strict but dedicated. They have been doing quite well in their O-levels for the past few years. I also prefer girl schools.
Cons pf CGS- Just the distance. It takes about 45min for me to reach there by train and 20min by car. My younger brother is also in Lower Primary, parents are working too, so it is very inconvienient for us. Parents also don't encourge me to go to CGS because of the long distance.

Pros of RV- The distance is about 3 times shorter than CGS.
Cons- Parents not really happy with students' results these few years, a lot of good teachers leaving the school too due to stress and standard has dropped. It is also a CO-ed school but I prefer girls' schools.

Overall, I am looking for a school that has good academic results and behaviour, along with good teachers and a condusive environment. I do not care a lot for CCAs and I hope that someone will be able to help me out.

Your parents think CGS is too far. And your parents are also not happy with RVHS results. So what is their choice?
But if I were you, I would go with your preference, and in this case, it looks like CGS wins with “girls school” since both schools meet the other criteria you set.

distance shouldn’t be much of a factor if there are other good things about the school that you can’t find in other schools. For example, a lot of people in crescent travel long distances to come to school, but they find out different ways to utilise that time in a useful manner.

At end of Sec 2 streaming exercise,

if you want to do GCE O-level Economics (SEAB exam code, 2286),
then go
Tanjong Katong Girls Secondary, because

TKGS do offer Economics (2286),
under TKGS Sec 3
( Double Sciences, plus Double Humanities including Economics) in TKGS 8-subject combination.

In contrast,
Crescent Girls Secondary (CGS)
doesn’t offer any Sec 3 Economics, inside CGS 8-subject combination.


As you know, choosing Sec 3 subject combination is important


In Sec 3,
When comes to choosing "Full" Humanities,

say if you have Zero interest in Full Geography nor in Full History nor in Full English Literature, totally No interest at all in any of these 3 humanities mentioned,
at least
TKGS can come to your "rescue" in that
TKGS still allow you to take up Econs, right ?


The other important factor is of course travelling distance everyday to and fro to school, because you will be doing it everyday come rain or shine, for the next 4 years

There are private bus operators who are present in school on the Orientation day. They operate in mornings only. I know there are some from Tampines, Pasir Ris etc.

If I reckon, 6 sections for Sec 1 and about 40-45 kids in 1 section
