Can I check with NYGH parents, is there a concept of a Sec 3 IP moving on to Sec 4 O levels?
In HCI, if Sec 3 IP kid doesnt do well in Sec 3, and after re-exams still poor, you can technically drop to Sec 4 O level class.
There isn’t any structured academic support programme for Sec 2s though, as far as I know. -

In nygh, if you fail sec 3 IP even after retest (min B3) you will be asked to SIP at sec 3 level. Yes, you lose a year.

Wow! Can Sec 3 SIP students move back to Sec 4 IP if they do well?

What happens if able to meet the promotion criteria, but 1 or 2 subjects scored C5, still need to attend the "bridging program" for certain weak subject?

Are u referring to sec 1-3? Should be fine as still meet promotional criteria to stay in IP. Not sure what is the selection criteria for compulsory supervised structured support (SSS) program. My girls said only eligible if fail the subject. Never heard of bridging program may be something new or old stuff rebranded new name. For progression to hci is a different story.

Oic., another question: Students obtaining a B4 or better in HCL at the O level may be exempted from taking Chinese H1 level at JC level. Does it mean student do not need to take Chinese anymore, for the 2 years in HCJC?

Not sure if things have been changed or they were just rebranded.
What dd can vaguely remember is that in the past, there were 2 different types of re-assessment for required students.
One is the re-take and that is for students who do not meet the promotion criteria.
Eg MSG 4 for sec 3 students
If a student do not meet the promotion criteria , meaning she gets an average of C or below grades for the 8-9 subjects, she will need to sit for re-take.
The re-take is done at end of the year so outcome will be known before new academic year starts.
The other is for students who meets the promotion criteria which means overall is ok but may have certain weaker subject.
Not sure what grade it is to have to sit for this test and if remedials are conducted during the school holidays.
Only know that this test will be held at beginning of the new year (January) to see how the student fares now.
If it doesn’t turn out well, the student will be put under a support program.
It doesn’t affect promotion as they are already promoted to the sec 4 level but I guess since the sec 4 exams will include the sec 3 topics just like the O levels do, additional support is deemed necessary for these students. -
Thanks Lego for summing up so well. My understanding is along the same line.
Yes if HCL O results are B4 and above then there is no need to take CL at HCJC. -
