Me too..feel sad about the news  received sms on termination of my Robinsons card shortly after reading the news..fast and furious arh..though not much attachment to the one at the new site.
John Little and Robinsons will sure miss them.. was telling dd yesterday..you know that place used to be carpark next to John Little before crossing the road to Robinsons..mommy used to go there when younger, the more when our office temporarily shifted to around the area..
just wandering I dunno why I have the impression..is the escalator going down to Somerset mrt stn inside the 313 Somerset the same escalator we used before the conversion of carpark? Remember the Phoenix hotel, can buy cakes at 50% after 6.30/7pm right?
Miss miss miss... feel sayang never take pictures of those places.. -

even before covid-19 came, when walk into Orchard Road Robinson, there were more sales girls than customers walking inside, mall looked almost empty. Saw a lot of sales girls standing around, but few customers browsing, window shopping inside Robinson.
gone just like that
Orchard road rental is too high, passed onto consumers in the form of higher costs of goods & consumer products sold. Lost the competitive advantage, because elsewhere in the heartland mall, also got shopping centre sprouting out,
selling similar stuff.
E.g. in Sengkang & Punggol Compass Point, Hougang mall, Kovan Heartland mall, they all have their own shopping mall nearby, etc.
Moreover, customers nowadays can also buy things online. Online selling is a fierce, giant competitor. Things have changed. 30 years ago, there wasn't any online shopping. Once all the manufacturers start to sell online directly to consumers, fewer and fewer people go to shopping centre to buy, all the middle-men shopping centre can close shop.
If you walk along Orchard road shopping area, can see that so many shops have already closed down. Cannot survive, due to high rental costs. Only makan, eatery still surviving, provided their food served is nice to eat, can attract walk-in customers to dine. If food not nice, soon will close down too. Customers are spoilt for choices, when come to makan
Now with covid-19, many people lost jobs, need to spend $ cautiously, especially those with school going children still in primary, Secondary schools / pre-u, polytechnic and university, where there are mouth to feed at home and aged elderly parents to look after too. If parents fall sick, enter hospital, $ fly out -
I’m sad because it’s a part of Singapore’s history. But I don’t think I’ve bought anything from Robinsons for many years - not my price range or type of goods. I wonder if some of the staff might consider retaining the name and converting the store to some other concept? Maybe more online and more appealing to the masses? I just think it’s sad to see the name go altogether.

Nowadays online, u can buy a lot of stuff cheaper
it's sad for a retail store to close for good after 162 years...that's a mighty long time.
back when it was at centrepoint, 'the sale worth waiting for' really pulled in crowds. i bought my queen bed from Robinsons.
after the change of boss, prices of stuff escalated quite a lot. I found myself walking out empty handed on several occasions. -
The only good deal that Robinsons had was on the big-ticket items. When I moved house, I bought new Simmons mattresses from there because that was the only place that gave a discount on that brand (member’s card tied up with a certain credit card).
However, given that buying such stuff is probably once in a decade, i think no loss to me on Robinsons’ closure. But I pity the older staff who will probably be let go without retrenchment benefits and hard to find equivalent job. -

my Simmons bed was bought from Robinsons. it was a very good deal. in fact, the promoter Sheila is still there after so many years.

I was sad when Robinsons left Centrepoint...there were so many beautiful memories of times spent there...the 'sale worth waiting for' was very attractive. still have those mugs in my cupboard.
isetan might be the next fatality. if takashimaya closes down, ngee Ann city would be a ghost town.
back in the 80s, there were 3 or 4 Metro stores in orchard road...lucky plaza, Far East plaza, opposite Far East plaza (where DFS is) and supreme house (demolished). those were the days. -

John little at specialist centre...I still remember going there so often and taking the bus from the bus stop home just opposite. mum and I used to go to the coffee house in the basement of Phoenix hotel for buffets.

when I was younger, I still remember Fitzpatrick supermarket. I have vivid memories of times spent there. told my kids about the incident when I pushed the trolley and knocked down the table where the promoter put her wines on. there was also Isetan Havelock which we used to go. times have changed so much.
