Me Time!

My niece and friend’s son who are both fresh grads without work experience managed to find some short term contract jobs with reasonable pay recently. (6-9 months contract)
Yes, time flies. My girls are now 23 (nearly 24) and 21! When I first joined KSP, my girls were 13 and 11! But seeing them grow is very rewarding, and I'm looking forward to the end of their educational journeys - at least the part that I am still responsible for (paying fees). If they choose to study any more in future, it's not my reponsibility! By July next year, both will have graduated, though in the current job climate, not sure when they will eventually get jobs. Luckily we are not waiting for them to earn money to support us.
There’s some incentive for companies to hire Singaporeans, hopefully help will continue to be rendered for the locals if it is still necessary in the future. -

Yes, the government is doing a lot to encourage this. I'm not too worried, really. For my older girl, I think she will find it harder to get a job, and I'm preparing her mentally that she should consider some additional training while job-hunting, or look for a traineeship of some kind. For my younger one, I think she should find a job relatively easily given her background and ability. She is managing her own job search - one of the places she is interested in already started online applications, even though graduation is months away.

we went to vivo city last night. had dinner and did some retail therapy. IT SURE FELT GOOD
bought a horgen bedsheet for CNY...but not a red one :rotflmao:
it sure felt good to indulge myself, free from the kids and hubby.
I can't remember exactly when I joined KSP...but it has to be at least 10 years ago. back then, I was still contemplating which primary school to register my daughter. my girl turns 16 in November and son is 20. in 3 months time, son would be 21. how fast time flies. -

Yeah so fast...I joined think b4 gal registering for P1. I still and always remember many many of your advices!
Once term ends, take a few weeks to really relax. You can ramp up a couple of weeks before school starts again. It's a long haul, so you need to plan for breaks at intervals.MrsKiasu\" post_id=\"2000801\" time=\"1604098793\" user_id=\"43981:

On finding jobs hopefully with the shift of focus back to Sporean (hopefully) our kids could get a decent job at a reasonably time. -

They (and we) are fortunate that we are not desperately in need of their income. Although I would like them to get a job quickly and start adult life soon, there are so many other people in greater need of jobs that we tell ourselves to be a bit patient. At least we can see that the authorities are trying their best to create opportunities for everyone. Anyway, that's next year's issues.

Right now, my younger girl is facing another lockdown in the UK. This year is really a lockdown year for her - first 2 weeks SHN in Singapore followed by circuit breaker and Phase 1 etc, then 2 weeks self-isolation in the UK, and now another lockdown! University studies are not really affected, but churches and social activities will be. -
@janet88. Hi Janet, may I seek your expertise... would you know whether your child will be eligible for the government's MOE Tuition Grant in the university, After he already enjoyed 3 years of this grant in polytechnic? Thank you in advance.

You are eligible to take up a Tuition Grant if you have not previously taken a Tuition Grant or received sponsorship/scholarship from the Government of Singapore to attain another qualification at an equal or higher level. -

Yes, I've pored over it (& related documentations on the Moe tg website, university+ polytechnic websites). The impression I got is that, polytechnics & universities are categorised similarly under tertiary education / Institutes of Higher Learning, as such, if I were to graduate from polytechnic (diploma, with a tuition grant), & continued to further my (degree) studies in the university, I would be denied further tuition grant. 😬
Would you happen to have the same interpretation? Thank you. -
Perhaps mums with kids who have completed their poly and continued with U education, can shed some light on the above, pls? Tks.

No. The way I read it, as poly diplomas are considered lower than university degrees, a student with a diploma would still be eligible for TG when studying for a degree. They have not already received an equal or higher qualification.slmkhoo\" post_id=\"2000997\" time=\"1604233495\" user_id=\"28674:
