Sharing this in case some parents are thinking of getting pre-loved CL materials. Just as this year's Pri 6s are the first batch to enjoy the new Pri sch syllabus, they will get to study the new CL syllabus next year in Sec sch too. 😉

This is so timely. Have been wondering for a long time. Luckily I caught this. Thank you Chen Laoshi.

Thank you for the info. I saw a JC I like but unfortunately it is too far for us.

Anyone know where to get the medium T-score for the respective secondary schools? Remember seeing a table somewhere… prefer to use medium T-score than COP when evaluating the academic standard of the schools. Thanks.

Not really the median but the secondary school booklet does have the range of t-scores for the students entering its various streams : IP, Express, Normal (A), Normal (T)

You can go to this website https://sis.moe.gov.sg/ and search your choice of school under View School Details

                  (i.e. https://postimg.cc/62gWF1mg ,That is RGS.)

                  (https://postimg.cc/gxXfT2Wz, this is NYGH's.)

                  Hope this helps! 🕺

                    Yes,

the Median Tscore is definitely more useful info, than merely COP, because then we will know at least 50% of the entire new Sec 1 cohort entered the Secondary school, at which Tscore ?

                    COP :
provided only the LOWEST minimum entry Tscore into the school before that very last candidate secured the last seat and gets Cut-off,
ie. the bottom of the ocean candidate so to speak, whereas

Median Tscore tell me more about the performance of the Sec 1 cohort

The only reliable trusted source for this wanted info, has to come from MOE herself , after MOE captured and compiled data from more than > 40,0000+ Psle students, in last year 2019 batch.

                    You can google
\" SIS (School information system)\" ; followed by name of that respective Secondary school which you are interested in,
the Median Tscore info will appear, beside the Cut-off-Tscore for that school.
Afraid that u need to do it on an individual school basis, obtained the info captured, then type into an Excel spreadsheet yourself, & save the spreadsheet

                    E.g.

here is Median Tscore for Hwa Chong Secondary, in last year 2019 psle batch , where

                    257 : was the Cut-off-point, while

261 : was the Median Tscore

The COP is the most important factor, as it determines whether you can/can't go. Some people may not want to select a school if you only met the COP. This could be due to a number of factors; don't want to be below average, always feel stress of trying to keep up with others, fewer opportunities to represent school in competitions/selected for special programmes, etc.

Thus, if you want to be around average can try for a school where your score is more in-line with the median. A few caveats to this are:

                        a) the COP and median may move up and down a few points each year due to demand and test difficulty. Targeting last year's median may only mean so much when you actually get there.

                        b) for some of these schools, there isn't that large of a spread between the COP and Median. I.e. there isn't really that big of a difference among most students' ability (say those scoring between i) COP and ii) 2 x Median - COP). Work ethic, focus, etc may be as big of a factor in how these students perform.

There's no right or wrong answer here (COP or Median). All depends on what you are comfortable with.
